Joan was born March 27, 1932 in Yukon, OK on her family's farm and died on April 12, 2005, in her home on the same farm.

She was a lifelong resident of Yukon, graduating as Salutatorian of the Yukon High School class of 1950. Joan also attended El Reno Junior College and Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater. She and her childhood sweetheart, Stanley Burris were married on April 7, 1951 and celebrated 54 years of marriage last week. Joan was active throughout life in the Methodist Church, enjoying many responsibilities in the United Methodist Women's group. She served in various district capacities, including the United Methodist Episcopal Committee; the North OKC District Board of Ministries and the District Board of Missions. Joan was president of the North Oklahoma City District UMW, and also enjoyed being an active participant in the Oklahoma City area Church Women United activities. Joan was a member of the Frisco Extension Homemakers Group (previously called Home Demonstration Clubs) for 54 years, and was presently serving as Secretary. She was honored as Canadian County Homemaker of the Year. Joan and Stanley were named Canadian County Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year in 1981. Through the years, she has served as President and many other offices in the Canadian County Farm Bureau Women's Committee. She always enjoyed being a part of groups and clubs, and throughout life she was active in many other groups, such as the Friday Study Club, Chi Omega Mom's Club, was a 4-H leader and other activities related to her three girls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. (Bill) and Esther Kathryn (Ping) Rhodyback.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley of the home. Her daughters are Becky & husband Fred Reuter of El Reno, Lisa & husband Don Close of Canyon, TX, and Gayla Knutson of Yukon. Her grandchildren include Blake Reuter & wife Melanie of Okla. City; Kelsey Reuter of Okla. City; Matt Close of Denver, CO; Jason & Ben Close of Canyon, TX, and Thane & Malori Knutson of Yukon.

A 'Joan A. Burris Memorial Fund' has been established at the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, 10928 SW 15th Street, Yukon, OK 73099.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 15, at the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, with interment following at the Frisco Cemetery, northwest of Yukon.
