Kenneth Crownover
©Shawnee News Star 29 Feb 2008 Former Shawnee resident Kenneth Crownover died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, in Care Living Center in El Reno. He was born April 3, 1923, in Treece, Kan. He grew up in Shawnee and attended Shawnee public schools where he participated in swimming, football and track and field. In 1943 he won the state pole vaulting championship. In 1948 he married Phala Phelen in Wesley Methodist Church in Shawnee. They moved to El Reno in 1950. Kenneth worked for Stephens Auto Supply in Shawnee. He worked as service manager for Avant Motor Company and later for Hammons Motor Company. He was a retired correctional officer with the Federal Correctional Institution in El Reno. Kenneth had served as a track and field coach at Sacred Heart High School and also served as Boy Scout Leader of Troop 386. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in El Reno. He was past president of the El Reno J.C.'s and was a former member of the El Reno Country Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phala, Crownover; parents, Theodore and Bell Crownover; and brothers, Leonard Crownover and Larry Crownover. Survivors include his son, Randy Crownover and wife, Penny, of Edmond; his daughter, Christie Provancha and husband, Arlen, of Perry, Mo.; his grandchildren, Mike Crownover of Des Moines, Iowa, Kim Crownover of Indianola, Iowa, Matt Crownover of Norman, Jennifer Marino and husband, Adam, of Baltimore, Md., Cheri Provancha of Perry, Mo., and Sean Provancha of Kansas City, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Emery Simpson of Indianola, Iowa, Caytlyn Provancha of Perry, Mo., and Mason Marino of Baltimore, Md.; family friend and guardian, Bonnie McBee and husband, Willie, and their children and grandchildren; close friends, Vickie Vrana and Brenda Jensen, both of El Reno. Service for Mr. Crownover will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Crownover officiating. Burial will be in the El Reno Cemetery. Kenneth's family would like to thank the staffs of Russell-Murray Hospice and the Care Living Center for all the love and care given to Kenneth over the past few years. The family suggests memorials be made to Russell-Murray Hospice, P.O. Box 1423, El Reno, OK 73036. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home, El Reno. |
