Jim D. Roofe, 56, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Sept, 5, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. Mr. Roofe was a physics and chemistry teacher at Valley Falls High School for 33 years.
He had also taught at Buffalo, OK. He was a member of the National Educators Association and the Kansas National Educators Association. He was membership coordinator for the Valley Falls Educators Association.
He was a member of the Valley Falls Rotary Club and the International Order of Odd Fellows No. 86 and had held many offices in their organizations.
He was born Jan. 12, 1950, at El Reno, OK, the son of Robert W. and Nadine M. Rugg Roofe. They preceded him in death.
He graduated from El Reno High School in 1968 and Central State University at Edmond, OK in 1973.
Survivors include two brothers, Robert Wayne Roofe, Clinton, Mass., and Thomas R. Roofe, Del City, OK; a sister, Ellen J. Kuykendall, Oklahoma City; one niece and three nephews.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at the Valley Falls School Gymnasium. Visitation was from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday at the Canadian Valley Cemetery, at Calumet, OK.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jim Roofe Memorial Scholarship Fund or to the American Lung Association and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, 810 Broadway, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
