Birth:  Oct. 23, 1814
Killington
Rutland County
Vermont, USA Death:  Jan. 12, 1896
Oklahoma, USA

Died on Sunday, Jan. 12th at one o'clock a.m. , Mrs. Harriett Wood Barrett, Rock Island Township, this county, surrounded by loving friends, she went to sleep in Jesus at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 20 days.

She had been troubled of late with heart failure, still her friends did not anticipate any immediate danger, but being so weakened by its results a slight cold proved serious to her.  She however, realized that she was liable to go at any hour and as ever ready and willing for the end to come.

Dr. Smith a good and a kind physician had been the family assistance for years and attended her in her last illness.

Her daughter Helen B Hickox, husband and family had left their home in the west and come intending to remove with their parents to sunny Florida, where a kind and loving sister of the deceased, who lives in Vermont owns a winter home which she had so kindly offered for the use of the family and had made inducements with the intent of making her latter days more happy, if possible, by the addition of the genial climate of that state. They arrived however, only in time to have a pleasant and joyful visit with their mother and to minister so kindly to their loved parents.

Forrest Barrett's wife Anna who has attended so kindly to the wants of her loved father and mother in law for so many years, was absent visiting her parents near Kansas City and was unable to return in time for the funeral.  A stepson and daughter who live in Missouri were also unable to be present.

The funeral took place January 14th at 2 o'clock and was conducted by the Rev. Hostetter assisted by Rev. Such, both neighboring divines who were acquainted with the deceased in her lifetime and both spoke with emphasis of her patient Christian life for so many years.

The music was in charge of Mrs. L. G. Filkins and Mr. May.  The dear old hymn "Nearer My God to Thee" which was a family favorite was sung as were other appropriate hymns.  The remains were laid to rest by loving hands at Pleasant Home burying grounds.
