Oklahoma City, Oklahoma September 2017 April 28, 1925 ~ September 5, 2017 Nona Vinita [McLemore] Penner of Yukon, OK passed to eternal life September 5, 2017. Born April 28, 1925, to Henry and Mary [Cross] McLemore, and raised on the farm near Colony, OK. She attended Cobb Creek School and Colony High School. Nona worked at Douglas Field, now Tinker AFB, as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She married Daniel Penner on September 7, 1946. They lived on a farm at Dill, OK and then moved to Catoosa where nephews Phil and Chris Reimer became a part of their family. Daniel and Nona moved their family to Yukon, OK in 1956. Nona was very active in her church community at First United Methodist Church of Yukon, OK. She was a part of Scouts, Ladies Circles, Helping Hands, Groundhog Committee, Youth Group, Meals on Wheels, Vacation Bible School and a member of the Caddo Nation. Nona had such a passion for caring and loving children that she felt a call to start the Mother’s Day Out program at her church, which is active to this day. She was also on the Baking Committee for kolaches and cinnamon rolls. Nona was a loving, supportive, and compassionate woman. She was always willing to help anyone at any time and she will be truly missed. Nona is survived by her brothers, Jack McLemore and his wife Freida of Colony, OK and Bill McLemore of Houston, TX, sister-in-law, Phyllis McLemore of Broken Arrow, OK, sister-in-law, Louise Crowder of Mesa, AZ, daughter, Donna [Penner] Black and her husband, Jim, of Midwest City, OK, daughter, Patty (Penner) Huffman and her husband, Harley of Fay, OK, and 5 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dallas and Robert McLemore, and sisters, Gladys Chalk, Bonita McLemore, and Bobbi Reimer, and granddaughter, Sarah [Black] Ritter. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 400 N. Elm, Yukon, OK. Interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Poage Cemetery, Colony, OK. |
