Allene Payne of Colony dies

Mrs. Sue Allene Payne, 79. of Colony died Thursday, Nov. 5, at Colony.

She was born July 14, 1902 in Fayetteville, Tenn. she came to Washita County in 1918 and graduated from Cordell High School in 1923. she taught school at Cobb Creek, Cloud Chief and Colony.

She was married to Luther Payne May 3,1927 at Colony.

She was a member of the Columbian Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Colony Presbyterian Church with Rev. George Miller and Rev. Joe Whitt officiating. Burial was in the Poag Cemetery under the direction of McClure's Hartronft Funeral Home.

Pall bearers were Ron Lowry, Keith Kliewer, Vernon Payne, Dee Treadaway, Mike Payne and Bryan Payne.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lou Lowry of Colony; two grandchildren, Lynda Kliewer of Bartlesville and Ron Lowry of Colony; two great grandchildren, Bree Lowry and Ashley Kliewer; and a sister, Lizzie Partain of Fayetteville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband May 23, 1967.

Colony Services Held Monday For Pioneer Merchant

Funeral services for William Arthur Payne, Colony, a Washita county resident the past 61 years, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 14, at he Columbian Memorial Presbyterian church in Colony. Rev. Gene D. Bergstresser, pastor, and Rev. Alvis Merrill, Clinton Baptist pastor, officiated.

Burial was in the Fairview cemetery northeast of Colony. Pallbearers were Weedn Lowry, Eldon, Vernon, Clifford, Riley and Gene Payne. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Alfred Humbarger, Dave Treadaway, E.N. Maynard and Tom Kutch.

Payne, 73, died Thursday afternoon, November 10, at the Medical Arts clinic in Weatherford.

He was born November 27, 1892, at Pierceville, Ga. He moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Alfred Payne, in 1905 to a farm northeast of Colony.

He was married to Mrs. Jennie Parks at Colony on January 6, 1915.

He went into the grocery business in 1917 in Colony.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Zane Payne of Colony; two daughters, Mrs. Opal Treadaway and Mrs. Lou Ann Bond of Colony; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Luther and Fate Payne of Colony; and three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bishop of El Reno, Mrs. Bertha Chody of Weather ford and Mrs. Minerva Rogers of Joliet, Ill.
