© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 27, 1957 March 25, 1889 ~ March 25, 1957 Colony Woman's Funeral Services Are Set Thursday COLONY-- Funeral services for Mrs. Emma McLemore who died Monday at her home in Colony, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Colony Mission church. Her body was found in her locked home about 1:30 p.m. Monday when two neighbor women, Mrs. John Burkhart and Mrs. Lester Bond, went to visit her. Unable to arouse Mrs. McLemore and because the doors were locked, Washita county officers were notified. A coroner's jury returned a verdict of "death from natural causes."Mrs. McLemore was a sister-in-law to Mrs. Ollie Dowty and an aunt of Mrs. Melvin Little, both of Carnegie. Burial will be made at Fairview cemetery, north of Colony. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, September 9, 1889 ~ October 14, 1957 McLemore Rites Held Wednesday At Colony Church Last rites for Burl Eli McLemore, a pioneer resident of the Colony community, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Colony Church of Christ with Walter Teel, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Fair View cemetery near Colony. McLemore, 68 years of age, had been in poor health for about three years. He became critically ill Wednesday morning and was taken to a Clinton hospital where he passed away early Monday. He was born September 9, 1899, at Mammoth Springs, Ark., to John Boyd and Frances Elizabeth McLemore. In 1907 he came with his parents to Oklahoma, settling near Colony where he had since made his home. He was married to Clara Ella Hearl on July 22, 1911 at Alfalfa. Eight children were born to them, all of whom survive. Included in his survivors are his widow of the home; three, M-Sgt. W.L. McLemore of Izmer, Turkey; Kenneth and Junior, both of Clinton; five daughters, Mrs. Harold Bond and Mrs. Melvin Little of Carnegie, Mrs. Leland Dunn, Colony; Mrs. H.W. Harlow of Norman; and Mrs. Herbert Hoock, Corn; one brother, Henry of Colony; two sisters, Mrs. N.O. Dowdy, Carnegie, and Mrs. John Burkhart of Colony; 20 grandchildren. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, September 2, 1964 March 28, 1919 ~ August 30, 1964 1 Killed In Area Accident A Hydro man was killed an automobile accident that occurred here over the weekend. Killed when the car he was driving on S.H. 54 near Weatherford went out of control and overturned Monday morning was Winford Lee McLemore, Hydro service station mechanic. McLemore was a brother of Mrs. Melvin Little and Mrs. Harold Bond of Carnegie. The fatal accident occurred when the car went out of control, traveled 300 feet flipping end over end. The car came to rest right-side-up. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at a Weatherford funeral home. An Air Force veteran with 21 years service before retiring, McLemore was a native of Colony. He was a graduate of Oklahoma Tech at Okmulgee. Survivors, in addition to his two Carnegie sisters, are his mother, Mrs. Clara E. McLemore of Colony; three sisters, Mrs. Harold Harlow of Tulsa, Mrs. Herbert Hook of Corn and Mrs. Leland Dunn of Colony; two brothers, Kenneth of Weatherford and Junior of Sterling. |
Weatherford, Oklahoma March 2004 January 11, 1929 ~ March 5, 2004 Graveside services for Nora Mae McLemore, 75, of formerly of Marble City, were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Marble City Cemetery, with the Rev. Leroy Reid officiating, under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw. She was born on January 11, 1929, in Marble City to Richard Dick Honeycutt and Mary Frances "May" Dornan. She died on Friday, March 5, 2004, in Weatherford. She married Dallas McLemore in 1961 in Sallisaw. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1993. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley and Brenda; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Fred, Charlie and Doyle; four sisters, Edith, Irene, Ruth and Evelyn; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Raleigh Honeycutt and one grandson, Maverick James Sallee. |

McLemore was born June 22, 1930, at his family home in Colony, Oklahoma to James Henry and Mary Gertrude Adams [Cross] McLemore and passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018, in Carnegie Tri-County Municipal Hospital in Carnegie, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years, 2 months, and 17 days. Jack was raised in rural Washita County, southeast of Colony, along with his four sisters and three brothers. He attended school in Colony through the eighth grade when his farming career began in earnest. Jack met his sweetheart, Freeda Harris, in school at Colony and on August 4, 1952, they were married in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Together they tackled the task of rearing Bob, Beverly, Tom, and Clay. He loved seeing people at school activities of his children and grandchildren. Having lived his entire life in the rich Cobb Creek bottom, where all of his farmland was located, Jack produced cotton, alfalfa, sorghum, peanuts, and wheat, as well as raised cattle. He was selected Indian Farmer of the Year in 1973 and his farm was named a Centennial Farm in 2000. Fond of being active in and giving back to his community, Jack enjoyed serving on a wide array of boards and committees, among numerous others. He served 40 years for Caddo Electric Coop, 35 years for Eakly Farmer’s Coop, and between 15 and 30 years for Cotton Coop Foundation, Producers Coop Oil Mill, Oklahoma Cotton Coop Association, Colony and later Washita Heights School boards. He was active in fundraising for local FFA and 4-H Clubs for kids in Colony, Corn, Eakly, and Oney. Jack was a proud member of the Caddo Indian Tribe of Oklahoma and worked to provide opportunites to Inidans in the area. He spent his whole life attending Colony Presbyterian Church where he served terms as deacon and elder, and led the singing of hymns from 1976 until 2017. He enjoyed playing the guitar for diverse audiances. His greatest contributions were: the ones he left behind; that he bowed his head for Jesus; and that he stood up for Uncle Sam. Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Freeda McLemore of their home in Colony, Oklahoma; three sons, Robert McLemore and wife, Aquilla, James Thomas McLemore and wife, Pam, and Clay McLemore and wife, Carla, all of Colony, Oklahoma; one daughter, Beverly Lowry and husband, Ron of Colony, Oklahoma; one brother, Bill McLemore of Houston, Texas; twelve grandchildren and spouses, Jenny and Shannon Olsen, Jed and Delena McLemore, Rebecca and David Burton, Dustin and Lindsay McLemore, Thomas and Stephanie McLemore, Jaci McLemore, Bree and Joe Patterson, Brody and Jayme Lowry, Blake Lowry, Chris Lawrence, and Jay and Kimberley Lawrence; sixteen great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jack, Lacy, Lucy, Caylor, Riggin, Brylee, Kash, Jagger, Logan, Kylee, Maddox, Phoenix, Broxton, Morgan, and Zoey; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Nona, Gladys, Bonita, and Bobby; and two brothers, Dallas and Robert. |
