Johnson, State Pioneer, Dies, At Colony August 13 Mattie Flavia Dunn was born October 9, 1866, in Princeton, Ky. She moved with her family to Ness City, Kans., in 1865, where she was married to B.H. Johnson September 26, 1888. They moved to Hennessey, Okla., in 1889 and 12 years later moved to Colony where she lived until her death August 13, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 15 days. She was converted at the age of 16 years and had been a devoted Christian and member of a Missionary Baptist church ever since. She is survived by her husband, B.H. Johnson, five sons, C.F. and James A., Burkburnett, Texas; Clayton, of Oklahoma City, and Sterling "Jack" Johnson and John W. Johnson, Los Angeles; four daughters, Mrs. Homer Cole, Thomas; Mrs. Floyd Reither, Long Beach; Mrs. C.C. Eiseman, Colony; Mrs. Carey Baird, Los Angeles; two brothers, Hugh Dunn, Jenks, and Albert Dunn, Colony, and a sister, Mrs. W.M. Johnson, Colony. She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was proud of her grandsons in the service of the United States. They were Pfc. Cleatus Johnson, Camp Rucker, Ala.; Dale Johnson, Lubbock, Texas; Pfc. Alden Cole, south Pacific; Cpl. Howard Cole, Lincoln, Neb.; Cpl. Ralph Cole, Italy; Johnnie Raff, S2c, San Diego; Staff Officer James A. Johnson,m Atlantic; N.C.; S/Sgt. Tommy Eiseman, Fort Sill, and J.O. Dickey, inducted August 24. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, October 13, 1948 May 29, 1876 ~ October 7, 1948 W.M. Johnson Dies; Rites Were Friday In Colony Church W.M. Johnson died at his home near Colony Thursday after a short illness. He had been in failing heath for a year. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, in the Columbian Memorial church at Colony and burial was in the Fairview cemetery five miles northeast of Colony. Rev. Cook of Weatherford preached the funeral sermon. Walter Mead Johnson was born May 29, 1876. His parents moved from Pennsylvania to Kansas and when he was still in his teens he came to the Oklahoma "Strip" and worked on the 101 ranch. He made trips into the Caddo and Cheyenne country before the opening. He drew a farm at the El Reno drawing in 1901 and located hi homestead two miles east of Colony where he has resided since. He was married to Clevie Dunn December 24, 1903, at Colony. He was converted in young manhood and joined the Missionary Baptist church of which he was a member at the time of his death. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Clevie Johnson, three sons, J.V. Johnson, Alfalfa; Ted Johnson, Englewood, Kan., and Raymond Johnson, Klamath Falls, Oregon; two daughters, Mrs,. Orville Kidd, and Mrs,. Wayne Noland of Colony; a brother, B.H. Johnson, Burbank, Texas and two grandchildren. Among those from a distance here for the funeral were B.H. Johnson and his two sons, James A. and Cletis, all of Burbank, and Wayne Dunn of Waurika. |
