© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma March 2, 2009 ~ March 4, 2009 July 28, 1941 ~ March 1, 2009 Funeral for Carolyn Yokum, age 67, of Chickasha will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ. Steve Parker and Jim Sheerer will officiate .Carolyn was born the daughter of Ira Lester Scott and Mamie Irene Willis Scott on July 28, 1941 in Binger, Oklahoma. She died on March 1, 2009 in Oklahoma City. Carolyn attended and graduated from Binger High School in 1959. She then attended Draughn's School of Business in Oklahoma City. She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Yokum, with whom she attended school since the first grade. They were married on November 23, 1962, in Binger. They lived in Stillwater for a short time before moving to Port, Oklahoma. Their first child, Dwight, was born while they lived in Port. Two years later, after moving to Verden, their second child, Kristi, was added to the family. After eleven years in Verden, they moved to Weatherford where Carolyn attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and received her bachelors and masters degrees. Carolyn was selected the outstanding secondary student teacher of her graduating class. After graduation, she worked as a librarian for the Weatherford and Clinton Public Schools. She moved to Chickasha in October of 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents.Survivors include: Husband: Jim Yokum of Chickasha, Son and Wife: Dwight and Lisa Yokum of Chickasha, Daughter and Husband: Kristi and Tod Merritt of Edmond, Grandchildren: Joshua, Tonya, and Matthew Yokum, and Keely Merritt, Sister and Husband: Sharon and Paul Kniffin of Binger, Niece: Suzanne Kniffin of Oklahoma City, Niece: April Umbarger of Binger, Numerous Other Family and Friends. Interment will be in the Murray Cemetery in Binger. Services are under direction of McRay Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Home or Southern Oaks Church of Christ Food and Clothing Ministry. |
