Oklahoma March 2016 May 31, 1921 ~ March 11, 2016 Graveside service for Lewis Clayton Adams, 94 year old Binger, Oklahoma resident, was held Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at the Binger Cemetery with Mark Heaney officiating under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. Lewis was born May 31, 1921 to Lemuel and Effie [Scott] Adams and passed away on March 11, 2016 at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lewis was born in Haywood Oklahoma and raised in Binger, Oklahoma where he attended school. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Army, and served during World War II with Allied Forces in the Western Front of the European Theatre, he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his discharge from the Army he worked for Safeway in Arizona where he learned the grocery business. Lewis returned to Binger and started a small grocery store, where he lived and worked as he expanded the business. He purchased The Dry Good Store on Main Street and The Variety Store in Hinton, OK working with his cousin, Dale and his wife, Margie [Renfro] Scott. It was through “The Variety Store” that he met a young mother, Lois [Renfro] Lehman and they were married on December 25, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were married for 38 years and lived the remainder of their lives in Binger. Lewis and Lois worked together during their marriage, along with his sister’s Ines and Rosalie for many years. They sold the grocery store in the early 70’s after the birth of his son and then sold the remaining businesses in the late 70’s when he retired. In 1998, Lewis and Lois, purchased the grocery store again and also Adams’ Place restaurant, with Lois in the restaurant and Lewis at the grocery store they were working together again until Lois’ death in 2006. Lewis continued to operate the grocery store into his late 80’s when a fire destroyed the business. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events, was always willing to help others in need and will be missed by his family. Lewis is survived by his daughter, Tosha Varner and her husband Jamie of the home in Binger; grandchildren Kobe Adams, Darrien Adams, Breezy Adams, Reagan Adams, Brighton Varner, and Brayden Layton; one son, Joey Adams; Lois’ children, Keith Lehman and Cheryl Lockstone and her husband Barrett Williamson; grandchildren, Ryan Lehman, and wife Nichole, Jantzen Lehman, Rhett Lehman and wife Kara, Audrey Lockstone, Adam Lockstone and wife Jenna; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces, Mike Mayhue and Sandy Hix, and nephews, Steve and Tom Adams. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois Adams; two sisters, Ines Rudisill and Rosalie Bowling; and two brothers, Avery and Coy Adams, two nieces, Denise Adams Young and Arlene Alexander and nephew, Lester Rudisill. |
