© The Chickasha Express-Star September 2008 Samuel Joseph Lyons Samuel Joseph Lyons, 72, was born September 26, 1935, in The Bronx, New York, to Joseph A. and Esther [Woodger] Lyons, and passed from this life on September 4, 2008, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, following a lengthy illness. Joe was raised in New York, and at 17, joined the United States Army. He served for 4 years, part of that time in Germany. He worked as a salesman for a time, but primarily was an artist and a sculptor. One of his paintings appeared on the cover of the Anadarko telephone Directory. Another of his paintings is hanging in the Oklahoma State Capitol Building. His bronze sculptures were very popular, and have been sold in many states. He did portraits of celebrities, both in oil and pencil drawings. Joe greatly enjoyed square dancing, and was a member of the Darko Travelers and Swinging Chicks Square Dance Clubs. He was a member of the Anadarko Church of Christ. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Darlene Alisha Lyons. Survivors include his son, Robert Lyons of Oklahoma City; 3 daughters, Sheila Wilson and husband Troy of Ninnekah, Kathleen Lyons of Edmond, and Lisa McKay of Owasso; 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services: 2:30 P.M., Monday, September 8, in the Steverson Funeral Chapel. Burial followed in Memory Lane Cemetery. Viewing until 5:00 p.m., Friday, from 9 am until 5 pm, Saturday, and from 1 pm until 5 pm Sunday, and from 9 am until service time Monday.
