James Thurman Guesby Jr.

James Thurman Guesby Jr., 74, of Anadarko, was born September 18, 1938 in Anadarko, to James Thurman Guesby, Sr. and Castella Burunly Guesby. He passed from this life on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.

JT, as those who knew and loved him affectionately called him, graduated from Anadarko High School in 1957. His class being the first integrated to graduate from Anadarko Public Schools. Growing up he was a hard working farmhand. He worked for brothers Mr. Archie Stephens and Mr. Bun Stephens, and for Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Venable.

After graduation he was admitted to Oklahoma State University where he aspired to become a veterinarian. JT went on to join the United States Army, where his travels took him to Fort Hood and Okinawa, Japan. After proudly serving his country, he returned to Anadarko and married his childhood sweetheart, Jean Esther Pendarvis on April 6, 1973.

He was employed by Sequoyah Carpet Mills, later renamed Hollytex Carpet Mill. He worked in the finishing department and the dye house and carried the responsibilities of foreman until the company closed.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers Warren and Robert Guesby, his only sister Patricia Guesby Reddick, 3 children, Genavie, Richard and William "Frog" Pendarvis.

Survivors include, his loving wife, 1 daughter, Sherry Lynn Galberth of Oklahoma City; 3 brothers, Alfred Guesby of Topeka, Kansas, Lester Guesby of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Jimmy and wife Melvia Guesby of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 7 sisters-in-love Delores, Princetta, Geneva, and Charlotte Kay all of Anadarko, Rosemary of Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, Ellen and Janette of Chickasha, Oklahoma; one very special aunt, Georgia Canddy of Oklahoma City; a beloved cousin Martha Palmer of Ponca City, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

The funeral service is scheduled for 11 A.M., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the Grace Christian Fellowship, with Pastor Ted Mercer and Pastor A.G. Burrus, officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.steversonfuneralhome.com
