© Whinery~Huddleston Funeral Service Lawton, Oklahoma June 2016 June 23, 1930 ~ June 04, 2016 Homer Howard Greear, 85 years old, a resident at the Lawton Fort Sill Veteran's Center in Lawton Oklahoma, passed away, in the company of his family, on Saturday June 4th 2016, at 12:25 PM at the Oklahoma City Veteran's Hospital after a long struggle with Parkinson's. Homer was born on June 23rd, 1930 in Cold Springs, Oklahoma. He married Wanda Faye Whittle on September 1st 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived for many years in Texas then moving home to Oklahoma where they lived most of their married life. Homer was a floor covering contractor and he and Wanda worked together as a team for 35 plus years until they retired. They enjoyed fishing and dancing together whenever they got a break from work. Homer at the age of 16, enlisted into the army by changing his birthdate to appear to be of age for enlistment. Entering in September of 1946, he served as a rifleman in Co. L, 35th infantry Regiment with the Japanese Occupational Forces, during a difficult period of transition in post war Japan. He is survived by his 3 sons, Johnny, Dale and Gene Greear, his daughter Cherie Greear Rhodarmer, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and his sister Jewel King. He is preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Faye [Whittle] Greear, his parents Leslie and Beaula [Irvin] Greear, his sisters, Dorothy Daniel, Ruth Kelley and Helen Greear, and his brothers Enos, James, Jimmy, Richard, Jerry, and Johnny Greear. Homer's funeral will be held Friday June 10th at 2:00 PM at the Whinery Huddleston Funeral Home located at 6210 NW Cache Road in Lawton Oklahoma. A burial service will be held immediately following the service at the Cache Cemetery on Old Cache Road. |
