Vanda "Jean" [Beets] Garrett
September 26, 1938 ~ July 25, 2007


Vanda 'Jean' Garrett, age 68, of Newcastle, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at her home.

She was born on September 26, 1938 in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

She was the only child born to Marion Everett Beets and Vivian Elaine Wiles Beets.

Jean grew up in Anadarko and graduated with the class of 1957.

On June 6th, less than one month after graduating, she married James "Jim" Lee Garrett. Together, they raised two children, Jim Jr. and Cindy.

For a short time, they made their home in Tulsa, then they lived in OKC 15 years, later moving to Newcastle in 1974.

Jean worked as a Financial Secretary for Capitol Hill Middle School in OKC for nearly 30 years before she retired.

While living in OKC, she and her family attended the Dumas Ave. Baptist Church. While living in Newcastle, she has been a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church for the past 21 years.

She is survived by husband, Jim Garrett Sr. of the home in Newcastle; mother, Vivian Beets of Anadarko; 2 children, Jim Garrett Jr. and wife Sara of Tuttle, Cindy Shaw and husband Mark of Newcastle; 5 grandchildren, Tara Samuels, Candace Baldwin and husband Brian, Clint Shaw, Levi Garrett, and Jake Garrett; 1 great- granddaughter, Mackenzie Grace Baldwin; 1 sister-in-law, Barbara Crider and husband Alan of Tulsa; and 2 brothers-in-law, Dr.Tom Garrett and wife Patti of Osage Beach, MO, and John Garrett and wife Gala of Newcastle.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle.

Interment will be 2:00 P.M. at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle.
