Friday, February 12, 2010 Richard Scott Cook He was born June 7, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Dr. E.T. and Jean [Eagan] Cook. He passed from this life on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City, following a sudden illness. Scott grew up in Anadarko and graduated from high school at St. Gregory's in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in journalism. He worked for the Lawton Constitution, then moved to Bartlesville to work at the newspaper. While there, he started working part-time at the Stage department store in the men's clothing department. He liked that so well he started doing that full time, later moving to a clothing store in Tulsa. He also worked at Sawyer Manufacturing in Tulsa until he retired and moved to Oklahoma City. Scott had many interests, including SCUBA diving. He was a diving instructor, and a volunteer recovery diver. He was a volunteer EMT, and worked with the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed teaching them SCUBA diving. Scott was also a knife maker. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Scott Abbott. Survivors include two brothers, Edward T. Cook, III and wife Jeannie of Houston, Texas, John P. Cook and wife Nancy of Columbus, Georgia; three sisters, Mary Anastasia (Stasia) Cook of Oklahoma City, Dr. M. Eileen Cook of Austin, Texas, and Katherine E. Abbott and husband Danny of Gracemont; eight nieces and nephews, seven great nieces and nephews, several cousins and many friends. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010, in the Steverson Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Memory Lane Cemetery. Viewing from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday. |
