Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, November 29, 1950 Susan "Susie" [Becker] Base Mrs. Base, Pioneer Oklahoma Woman Rites Sunday, P.M. Services were in the Greenfield Mennonite church at 2 p.m. Sunday for Mrs. Susie Base, 90-year-old pioneer state woman, who died at her home in that community Friday. Rev. R. Friesen was in charge of the services and burial was in the Greenfield cemetery under direction of the Harvey Funeral home. Mrs. Base had lived in Oklahoma about 60 years. She was born in Poland July 25, 1860. She went to South Russia as a child and in 1874 she came to the United States. She was married to Henry M. Base Oct. 19, 1879, in Canton, Kansas. They made their home on a farm near Mound Ridge, Kan., until 1891 when they came to the southern part of the Oklahoma territory. In 1901 they located on a claim southwest of Fort Cobb which remained the home. Survivors are five sons, Jacob, Mission, Texas; Peter, Enterprise, Kansas; Dan, Willie and Isaac Base, all of the home community; and four daughters, Mrs. Peter Schmidt, LaJunta, Colo.; Mrs. John Schmidt, Goltry; Mrs. Emil Dalke, Burrton, Kansas, and Mrs. Henry Dalke, of southwest of Fort Cobb. Also 40 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. |

Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, February 14, 1968 Peter Henry "Pete" Base Peter Henry "Pete" Funeral Services For Peter H. Base Held Wednesday. Funeral services for Peter H. Base were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Bob Williams, pastor, officiating. Rev. A G. Schmidt, pastor of the Greenfield Mennonite church, assisted. Burial was in the Greenfield Mennonite cemetery southeast of Carnegie with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge. Base died late Saturday night, February 10, in the Carnegie hospital after a lengthy illness. He had spent several days in the Lawton Memorial hospital before being transferred back to the local hospital January 31. A son of Henry M. and Suzanna Bekker Base, he was born August 25, 1880, near Mound Ridge, Kansas. In 1892 the family moved to the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, and settled near Byers. In 1901, he became affiliated with the General Conference churches. The past 14 years he had worshiped at the Church of the Nazarene. January 14, 1912, he was married to Anna Schartner at Goltry, Okla. In 1916 they moved to the Fort Cobb community and 1947 moved back to Kansas. They had returned recently to this community. He is survived by his wife, Anna; two sons, Alfred of Susanville, Calif., and Wesley of Ontario, Calif.; three daughters, Almeda Jantz of Abilene, Kans., Lena Thomas of Marion, S.D., and Wanda Strole of Herrington, Kans.; 24 children, 10 great-grandchild, three brothers and three sisters. |
May 16, 1977 Anna [Schartner] Base Anna Base, 84, Herington, died Friday, May 13 in her home. She was born May 12, 1893, in Doland, S.D. She was married to Pete Base, Jan 14, 1912, in Goltry, Okla. He preceded her in death on Feb 10, 1968. Survivors include two sons, Alfred, Susanville, Calif. and Wesley, Ontario, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Wanda Strole, Herington; Mrs. Leoda Mash, Enterprise; Mrs. Almeda Sanders, Solomon; Mrs. Lawneta Cott, Gardina, Calif. and Mrs. Lena Thomas, Marion, S,D,; and one sister, Catie Nightingale, Carnegie, Okla. Funeral services were 10 a.m. this morning at the Donahue Funeral Home in Herington. A second service will be conducted Tuesday at the Church of the Nazarene at 2 p.m. in Carnegie, Okla., with the Rev. Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Greenfield cemetery in Carnegie.
