THE WONDERFUL LIFE OF JAYNE HARDY

The 'Golden Bells' are ringing in Heaven for Jayne Hardy and we are all celebrating a life 'well lived' by an extraordinary lady that was admired and adored by all who were lucky enough to know her.

She was a one of a kind charmer and the original 'Glamour Girl' who loved the color Red, anything Estee Lauder, everything that sparkled!!!

Jayne Hardy, age 95, was born June 10, 1911, and grew up in Gracemont, OK.

She was the beloved daughter of Thomas J. Hardy and Cora Deason Hardy.

She was the adored sister of Ethel, Willy, Alph, Fanny, Rufus, Jeff, TJ, and Walter.

She graduated from Gracemont High School at the age of 16 and attended Central State College in Edmond.

She then went on to graduate from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK.

She taught all grades K thru 12 in Jackson County OK and spent 29 of her 44 years in education teaching 1st Graders in Altus, OK.

Jayne was named the 1961 Jackson County 'Teacher of the Year' and then went on to win the 1961 Oklahoma Fair State 'Teacher of the Year Award.' She was also a nationally recognized penmanship teacher and her students won many state and national honors.

Jayne dedicated 100's of hours to community service projects and was recognized by the Salvation Army in 1992.

She was also a top saleswoman for World Book and truly believed every family should own a set.

In 1987, she was proclaimed a 'Living Legend' by the Museum of the Western Prairie.

Jayne Hardy was gifted and talented. She enjoyed painting fine art and ceramics, vocal music, playing the guitar, piano and organ. She loved reading fine literature and the Bible.

Her best talent was gathering friends along her many journeys. A trail blazer for women, Jayne was always ahead of her time.

She attended unusual events including two Worlds Fairs, a Tea with Eleanor Roosevelt, and she even drove a World War II Jeep across the country that was shipped in from Europe after the war.

She traveled across all 50 states, throughout Canada and Europe.

At the age of 88, she realized her lifelong dream and traveled around the world!!

In 1988, she moved from Altus to Spanish Cove Retirement Center in Yukon, OK to join in the fun with many lifelong friends including Claudia Williams, now deceased.

From the moment she arrived she quickly became Spanish Cove's life of the party and continued to have the time of her life there for 19 years.

She is survived by a multitude of loving friends, four devoted nieces and three devoted nephews and all of their extended families.
