[Bridge] Smith, retired farmer, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the Ft. Cobb Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Carnegie Church of the Nazarene officiated. Burial was in the Ft. Cobb Cemetery under direction of the Ft. Cobb Funeral Home. Mr. Smith died Monday in the Carnegie Tri-County Hospital at the age of 107 years, five months and five days. Bartley Elbridge "Bridge" Smith was born in Cass County Texas August 13, 1874. When a boy the family moved to Arkansas. He was married in 1900 in Arkansas to Belle Humphrey. They came to Oklahoma in 1903 and settled at Mtn. View. They came to north of Ft. Cobb in 1930. Mrs. Smith passed away in 1944. In 1946 he was married at Chickasha to Hazel Barton. She died in 1968. He was also preceded in death by a son, Fred in 1963. Survivors include a granddaughter, Ojuieta of Anadarko; one grandson, Donald Smith of Oklahoma City; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Velma Smith of Anadarko and numerous nieces and nephews. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 11, 1931 William E. "Pete" Smith Caddo County Commissioner Dies Suddenly W.E. Smith Succumbs From Heart Attack In Ft. Cobb At 11:30 Wednesday. W.E "Pete" Smith, Caddo county commissioner and pioneer resident of the Fort Cobb community, died suddenly on the streets of Fort Cobb at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. His death was attributed to an acute heart attack, according to reports. Mr. Smith and Paul Gilbert were standing in front of Gilbert's filling station when Mr. Smith collapsed and died without speaking. The body is held in a Fort Cobb funeral home awaiting completion of funeral arrangements. His long residence in the county and his political activities gave Mr. Smith a wide acquaintance, and news of his sudden death was a shock to his many friends all over the county. Mr. Smith was completing his second term as commissioner and had been reelected for a third term, defeating D.C. Nixon last November in one of the closest races of his career. He is survived by his wife, one son. Ormsby Smith, who lives in Oklahoma City, and two daughters, Ailene, a student at the A. and M. college and Wanda who lives at home south of Fort Cobb. His aged mother who lives in San Antonio, Texas will not be able to come here for the funeral. |

Cobb Services were at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist church for C.U. Smith, 66, who died in a Carnegie hospital Monday. He had been in failing health the past 18 months. Elder Floyd Griffin of Snyder, a nephew, conducted the services and he was assisted by Rev. W.F. Crow, Carnegie pastor. Burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery, under direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home. Clyde Ulan Smith was born at Telahoma, Tenn. July 22, 1888 and came with his parents to Texas in 1890. He was married to Laura Griffin at Denton, Texas, Oct. 15, 1905, to them eight children were born. The couple planned to celebrate their golden wedding this autumn. The family came to Jackson county, Oklahoma in 1917 and to Caddo county in 1922. Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to Carnegie to make their home six years ago. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Laura Smith at the home; three daughters, Mrs N.E. McRee, Fort Worth; Mrs. George Tessmer, New York City; and Mrs. Vernon Ellison, Stockton, Calif; and five sons, Emory and Chet, Carnegie; Ed, Fort Cobb; Roy, Cement; and Vernon, Stockton. Also 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive. Cobb Thursday Funeral services for W.E. "Pete" Smith, Caddo county commissioner, were held at the Methodist church in Fort Cobb at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 12 and interment was made in the Fort Cobb cemetery under the auspices of the Odd Fellow lodge. Mr. Smith died suddenly about 11:30 Wednesday morning while talking to a friend on the streets of Fort Cobb. Death was due to a severe heart attack, according to reports. He is survived by his widow and three children. Prominent in county politics, Mr. Smith was completing his second term as commissioner and had been reelected for a third term. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, June 2, 1967 Laura Bell [Griffin] Smith Laura Belle Griffin was born to William and Mary Griffin on February 18, 1889, at Talahoma, Tenn. She moved to Texas at the age of eight years. She married C.L. Smith in 1905 at Denton, Texas . They moved to Oklahoma to rear their family and had been a resident of Carnegie the past 18 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1955. Laura Griffin died June 20, 1967. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Eula McRee of Fort Worth, Mrs. Marie Tessner of Richmond Hill, N.Y., and Mrs. Faye Ellison of Valinda, Calif.; five sons, E.A. Smith, Carnegie, Ed Smith of Fort Cobb, Chet Smith, Visalia, Calif., Ray Smith of Cement and Leon Smith of Carnegie; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one half-sister, Mrs. Hattie Strickland of Olustee and three half-brothers, Parman Griffin of Altus, Jim and Lawrence Griffin of Erath, Texas. |

Smith, 59, retired Oney businessman, died at 5 p.m. Sunday at his home in Oney after a short illness. Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Oney Baptist church with the Harvey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Rev. Melvin Anderson, Oklahoma City, was assisted by Rev. Jack Stuart in conducting the rites. Burial was in the Fort Cobb cemetery. Yater Young Smith was born in Hill county, Texas, Feb. 17, 1892. He came to Oklahoma at an early age and lived in the vicinities of Anadarko, Verden, Cyril and Washita until 1923 when he moved to Oney where he owned and operated a general store until 1946 when he retired from active business. He was married to Lucy Simms and to this union three children were born. Mrs. Smith and a son, C.B., preceded him in death. He was married to Beulah Smith in 1937. He was a member of the Oney Christian church and the Oney I.O.O.F. lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Beulah Smith of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Mona Jeanne Rowlett, Fort Cobb, and Mrs. Mildred Vestal, Cyril; two step-daughters, Mrs. Betty Monroe, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Virgia Hawthorne, Wynnewoood; his father, James S. Smith, Hereford, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Nora Collins, Ventura, Calif.; three half-brothers, Clarence and Harry Smith, Hereford, and Claude of Oregon; four half-sisters, Mrs. Anna Mae Medley and Mrs. Emerald Epperson, Hereford; Mrs. Jewel Turner, Long Beach, and Mrs. Ethel Caskey, Ventura; two step-brothers, Bill Parker, Cement, and Lee Parker, Hereford, and five grandchildren. |

Smith, 21, a native of Caddo county, died at an Anadarko hospital Sunday after being seriously ill about a week. Funeral services were held at Oney Monday afternoon and burial was made in the Oak Grove cemetery at Fort Cobb. Young Smith was known to hundreds of Carnegie baseball fans who had seen him play in the tournament here for the past several years. A good player and clean sportsman, he was deservedly popular with players and fans. |
Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 Cleon Lloyd Smith Lawton, OK. He was born on February 13th, 1933 in Mountain View, OK to Clifton Ivan and Pearl [Gibson] Smith. Cleon worked as a heavy equipment operator. He served his country in the U.S. Army from April 22, 1953 to January 26, 1955. He enjoyed going to the local nursing homes and visiting with the residents. January 13, 2018 Milton Edward Smith Milton Edward Smith of Fort Cobb passed away January 13, 2018 at the age of 82. He was born in Fort Cobb April 29, 1935 to Edward Clyde Smith and Jessie Elizabeth [Lisk] Smith. He grew up in Fort Cobb and graduated from Fort Cobb High School in 1953. He developed a passion early in life for one of his life long vocations as a farmer / rancher. He was awarded the highest national agriculture award, The American Farmer Degree. He also received the Southwest Star Farmer Award. He raised and showed the Grand Champion Steer at the State Fair of Oklahoma in 1954 and the same steer was awarded Champion Shorthorn at the National Western Livestock Show in Denver, Colorado. True to his meticulous attention to detail he won the showmanship award at the National Western Livestock Show. He married Hazel Horn on December 21, 1956 in Anadarko and they recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. He owned and operated Milton Smith Bulldozers for over 40 years. He was introduced to the dirt contracting business by his father-in-law Fate Horn. In the early years he worked with his father-in-law and his brothers-in-law Bub, Hillard and Glenn Horn. He attributed the success of his business to his loyal customer base consisting of many area farmers and commercial accounts, for which he was grateful. A real springboard for his success was the commercial projects that he completed for Sequoyah Carpet Mills in Anadarko and Davis, Oklahoma. He recognized that the success of his dozer business was accomplished by the faithful commitment of two key employees, Raymond Clift and Grant Bell. They were two of the best dozer operators in the area. Both preceded Milton in death. He served on the Caddo Kiowa Career Tech Board in Fort Cobb from 1980-1993 with many of those years being served as President. He was humbled by the Boards election to honor his service by naming a street on the Fort Cobb campus in his name. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Cobb and assured his eternity in heaven by his profession of faith in Jesus Christ as his personal lord and savior. He is survived by his wife Hazel of the home, two daughters and son's-in-law, Terri and Ronnie Hodges of Fort Cobb, Kay and Richard Ross of Anadarko. His grandchildren Whitney and husband Stephen Welch of Lawton, Jay Milton Ross of Coppell, TX and Richelle and Ron Atkins of Oklahoma City, Great grandchildren Juliette Monroe Welch, Montana Welch and Ayden and Avery Atkins, a brother Don Smith, brother-in-law Hillard Horn, and many nephews, nieces and friends. He was preceded in death my his parents, his wife's parents Fate and Annie Horn, brothers-in-law Glen Horn, Bub Horn and Donald Skipworth, sisters-in-law Barbara Skipworth, Ailene Smith and Nancy Horn. Graveside services will be conducted at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Cobb 2:00 p.m. January 18, 2018, to be officiated by Rev. Todd Pack and Rev. Steve Goodson. Services are under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home of Anadarko.
