Mr Smedley enlisted in the Civil War in 1861 from Arkansas, serving throughout the war as a member of the Second Arkansas Cavalry.

After the war he moved to Texas, where he reared his family. He came to Oklahoma in 1900, and after the drawing he bought a relinquishment just west of Fort Cobb, on the north side of the river, where he lived until some years later when he moved to Fort Cobb, where he resided until his death.

To know Uncle Abner was to be his friend, for he was at all times loyal to his country, loyal to his family, and loyal to his friends, and was always a real citizen in the community in which he lived.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon with burial in the Fort Cobb Cemetery, and the American Legion furnished a ....

Two Die From Injuries When Gas Explodes

Young Farm Wifes Meet Almost Identical Tragedies; One Home Burns

Starting fires with kerosens cost the lives of two young farm wives this week. The accidents were almost identical--gasoline explosions.

Mrs. Henry Smedley, 21 years old who lives five miles east of Carnegie, died at 7 o'clock Sunday night following an explosion of gasoline with which she attempted to start a fire Sunday noon. The forse of the explosion blew the windows out of the house and Mrs Smedley was blown into an ajoining room.

Mr Smedley, husband of the injured woman, was seriously burned when he attempted to smother the flames which enveloped the wife. Fire in the kitchen was extinguished and the house was saved.

Funeral services were held at the residence at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon and burial was made in the Fort Cobb cemetery.

Besides the husband, Mrs. Smedley uis survived by a small daughter.
