Fred W. Mason

County President of F.U. Dies Sunday

Services were held at Fort Cobb Tuesday afternoon for Fred W. Mason, 54, well known farmer and president of the Caddo County Farmers Union, who died Sunday at an Anadarko hospital. He had been ill only a few days.

He is survived by a sister and five brothers. Several friends from Carnegie attended the services Tuesday.

Harlan Harvey Mason

Fort Cobb Farmer Dies; Funeral To Be At Oney Church

Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery under the direction of the Fort Cobb Funeral home.

Mason, 53 years of age and a native of Fort Cobb, died in an Anadarko hospital at 2 p.m. Monday, March 9. He was born February 10, 1906, and was married to Artress Strange at Carnegie on October 12, 1929. He was a member of the Oney Baptist church, chairman of the board of deacons, and a member of the Masonic and IOOF lodges. Survivors include the wife of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Don Elliott and Mrs. Donald Wright, both of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mont Ellis, Battleground, Wash., and Mrs. Van Carson, Binger; four brothers, Roy of El Paso, Harvry of Van Couver, Wash., Ralph, Placerville, Calif., and Randal, Fontana, Calif.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

Hazel V. [Yarnell] Mason

Hazel V. Mason died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at Presbyterian Hospital, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, following an extended illness.

Hazel was born in Watonga, Oklahoma, on September 16, 1924, to Fremont H. and Carrie L. Yarnell.

The family moved to Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1927 where Hazel lived until graduation from Anadarko High School in 1940.

She attended Central State College, Edmond, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma College for Women, Chickasha, Oklahoma, receiving a teaching certificate.

She taught grades one through eight at Washita School.

Hazel married Adran Mason in 1944, moving to Fort Cobb, Oklahoma, where they farmed, ranched, and operated a Farm Bureau insurance agency together for 46 years.

After Adran's death in 1990, she continued to supervise the operation of the family farm until her death.

Through the years, she was an active member of the Fort Cobb First Baptist Church, Caddo County Farm Bureau, Beta Sigma Phi, and Foster Home Demonstration Club.

She was an accomplished seamstress, talented cook, avid gardener, and quickstep square dancer.

Hazel was deeply devoted to her family and gave tirelessly of herself throughout her life. Hazel was also an animal lover.

During her later years, she enjoyed the companionship of her two chocolate Labrador Retrievers, Hershey and Fudge, and her cats, Annie and Pinkie.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, James Yarnell; and younger sister, Alma Jean Yarnell.

She is survived by her daughters, Jo Karen Parr, Montgomery, Alabama, and Adra Ann Cheek and her husband David, Edmond, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Tracey Love and her husband Jeff, Edmond, Oklahoma, and Dawn Smith and her husband Jason, Round Rock, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Michaela Love and Travis Smith; and her sister, Lucy Mae Jennings, Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, at First Baptist Church, Fort Cobb, with interment immediately following at Fort Cobb Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
