Harry Richard Knauss

Funeral services were held at the Harvey Chapel in Fort Cobb Monday morning for H.R. Knauss, well known county farmer, who passed away Saturday after being ill only a short time.

He homesteaded his farm in the Crescent community in 1902 where he has since lived.

In earlier years he served as clerk of the Crescent school. He was elected secretary of the Farmer's Cooperative and was one of the first directors of the Farmers Gin at Fort Cobb and a director of the Farmers' Co-op store there.

Harry Richard Knauss was born Feb. 4, 1869 at Allentown, Pa. and died May 27, 1939.

He was baptized into the German Reform Church at Allentown Oct. 3, 1869.

He moved with his parents to Atchinson, Kansas at the age of eight and later moved to Hutchinson. He went to Colorado when he was 21 and spent three years there and one year in Wyoming before returning to Hutchinson where he with his father engaged in cigar manufacture. When this section of Oklahoma was opened for settlement he came here and has helped with the development of the county and state. He had never married.

Survivors include his brother, Claude Knauss, who homesteaded the farm adjoining his; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Huffman, Hutchison, Kans., and nine nephews and nieces, Charles, Donice, Paul and Burl Knauss of the home address; Mrs. F.A. Knauss, Havana, La., Claude Hufman, Pittsburg, Kans., Don, Lee and Esther Huffman of Hutchinson.

R.E. Harvey conducted the service and burial was made in the Oak Grove cemetery at Fort Cobb.
