© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 25, 1939 Edward D Byrd County Pioneer Dies at Fort Cobb FORT COBB, Jan. 23--Edward D. Byrd, a resident of Caddo county for 38 years passed away at his home here Monday at the age of 73 years, one month and two days. He was born Dec. 21, 1865. He was married Obedia Anderson June 26, 1887 and to this union three children were born two of whom survive, Emery Byrd, of Mountain View, and Mrs. Vivian Gee, Ft. Cobb. The other daughter, Mrs. Pearl Banks, passed away in 1925. He leaves to mourn his going his wife, the son and daughter, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, one brother and a sister and many friends. He was converted and united with the Methodist church when a young man and lived a consistent Christian life. He and his wife united with the Methodist church in Ft. Cobb last year. Mr. Byrd came to Oklahoma in 1900 and moved to Ft. Cobb 12 years ago. He was a carpenter by trade, and he with several of the other carpenters of Ft. Cobb has built homes for Caddo county folk. He served as superintendent of Sunday school at Prairie Lone for a number of years. "Mr. Byrd was a real man, a hard worker and was one of the most friendly men one ever met," his pastor said. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. F.M. Simpson. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery with arrangements in charge of the Harvey Funeral Home. |
