Monday, July 6, 2009 James Franklin Willcox APACHE - Funeral for James Franklin Willcox, 83, Apache, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Apache with the Rev. A. L. Swagerty and David Moore officiating. Mr. Willcox died Monday, July 6, 2009. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery under direction of Crews Funeral Home. He was born Feb. 17, 1926, east of Carnegie, to William W. and Essie Elizabeth Josey Willcox. He was a farmer and worked at Rogers Lumber Company before entering the Army in 1944. He served in Germany, Belgium, France and England during World War II. He married Alta Roberts in 1946. After serving in the military, he worked as a firefighter at Fort Sill. He later married Elma Tracey Owsley in 1969. She died in 1999. He retired from the Fort Sill Fire Department in 1980 after serving for 30 years. He married Bernice Priest on Aug. 25, 2004. He was a member of the American Legion Post 193 for 64 years. He was a member of the Apache Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture. He also played Santa Claus. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two children: Darrell and Lennie Willcox, Chickasha; and Malinda Willcox, Guthrie; seven stepchildren and their spouses: Gloria and Ken Wright, Lawton; Barbara and David Moore, Fayetteville, Ark.; Michael Hawkins, Apache; Marshall Hawkins, Norman; Errol Hawkins, Del City; Doug and Linda Hawkins, Midwest City; Larry Hawkins, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren: Brandon Burke and Amanda Burke; three great-grandchildren; many step grandchildren, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, W.M. Willcox, Bakersfield, Calif.; and a sister, Irene Miller, Apache. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Willie Josey and John Willcox; six sisters: Minnie Barkley, Martha Shackleford, Mary Shackleford, Rhea Josey, Maxine Laurence and Lucille Wicks. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, or the American Cancer Society. |
