Apache, Oklahoma August 2008 February 18, 1941 ~ August 18, 2009 Ray Leon Heilaman was born February 18, 1941 and died August 18, 2009 after a lengthy battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Apache, Oklahoma with Pastor Bud Jones, Apache First Pentecostal Church, officiating. Leon was born in a farmhouse west of Apache, OK, to Ray and Irene Heilaman. He is survived by his wife, Sandy of 49 years, three children and their spouses, Mike and Lora Heilaman, Beverly and Dick Sears, and Shelly and Scot Finney; eight grandchildren; Amy Eggers, Jared and Ruby Ann Heilaman, Kaytlin and Hailey Finney, and A.J., Zachary, and Jayme Sears; 5 great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Jed Denton and many family members and friends. Leon grew up at Boone, OK. He was a member of the Boone Bellview Baptist Church and was baptized in Boone's TaHa Creek when he was a young man. He attended Boone Elementary through the eighth grade and graduated from Apache High School in 1959. He was employed by Western Farmers Electric Cooperative, Anadarko, OK for 30 years, retiring in 1996. His retirement years were spent traveling and enjoying family and friends. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Irene Heilaman, three sisters, Virginia Hamilton, Clela Sanmann and Mary Myers, one brother, Gary Heilaman and one grandson, Derrick Heilaman. © Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, July 5, 1942 ~ August 31, 2014 Sandra Kay Heilaman Gilbreath of Apache, Oklahoma was born July 5, 1942 in Chickasha, OK to William Byrle and Dollie [Kennedy] Edwards. She passed away August 31st in Oklahoma City at the age of 72. Sandy graduated from Apache High School in 1960. She worked for Oklahoma Farmers Union Insurance in Oklahoma City, at the Transportation Division at Fort Sill and was the office manager for the Apache Farmers Cooperative for 19 years, retiring in 2002. Sandy married Leon Heilaman on August 14, 1960 in Apache. Leon preceded Sandy in death on August 18, 2009 after 49 years of marriage. She and Leon loved going to lake, traveling through the United States and spending time with their friends and family. Sandy also enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing golf and watching sports, especially when her grandchildren and family were participating. Sandy and Kermit Gilbreath were married in Apache on October 28, 2012. They enjoyed traveling, church and community activities and spending time with their families. Sandy and Kermit were very active in the Apache community and supported many local events with their time and contributions. Sandy was a member of the Farmerette Club, the Red Hats Society, Stitch-in-Time Sewing Club and served as president of the Apache Alumni Association for two years. She delivered lunches and wrote several grants for the Apache Nutrition Center. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served on several committees over the years. Sandy is survived by: Her husband, Kermit Gilbreath of the home; 1 son and his wife - Mike and Lora Heilaman Apache, OK; 2 daughters - Beverly Sears Apache, OK, Shelly and husband, Scot Finney Apache, OK; 8 grandchildren - Amy Eggers, Jared Heilaman, Ruby Heilaman, Kaytlin Finney, Hailey Finney, A.J. Sears, Zachary Sears, Jayme Sears; Great-grandchildren - Dylan Heilaman, Jentri Sears, Emmalea Harger, Gavin and Grace Shaw and Ethan and Bella Eggers; 2 sisters and their husbands and children: Judy and Bill Davis, Tammy & Terry and Families Apache, OK, Kathe and Rodney Claborn, Brandon, Heath & Justin and Families Apache, OK Kermit’s Family, whom she took as her own: Shane and Tonya Gilbreath and their daughters, Tatum and Shunie, Shannon and Randy Meshell and daughter, Sibella Johnetta Gilbreath, Karen Gilbreath and their families. She was preceded in death by: Her parents, Her first husband, Leon Heilaman, Her sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Mark Blackwell, Her grandson, Derrick Heilaman, Her mother-in-law, Lois Gilbreath Barton. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 3rd at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Chris Stinnett officiating and assisted by Rev. Bud Jones. Arrangements are under the direction of Crews Funeral Home.
