© Crews Funeral Home Apache, Caddo CO, Oklahoma November 2011 March 25, 1936 ~ June 4, 2015 Jesse David Fortney of Apache, Oklahoma was born March 25, 1936 in Lawton, OK to Jesse Clarence and Martha Milford [Mitchelly] Fortney. He passed away June 4th in Lawton at the age of 79. David was a member of the National Guard. He was married to the late LouAnn Lovett on December 31, 1957. To this union, three sons were born. David worked for the Coca Cola Company in Lawton, starting from the ground up and working as a route driver, then in advance sales before working in the service department in charge of special events. He retired in 1998 after working for 45 years and one day. He married Laveta Ann McBride on August 27, 1982 in Lawton. Together, they enjoyed riding dirt bikes and touring on their Honda Goldwing. He belonged to the Honda Goldwing Association. He also enjoyed doing leatherwork and metalwork. He was known as ‘Mr. Fix-it’ because he was always fixing people’s lawnmowers and other small engines. Many years ago, he would take his sons hunting rattlesnakes along the Red River. He later encouraged his brother-in-law, Ronnie Orf and several others, to start the Apache Rattlesnake Festival. With his help, it has grown into one of the largest festivals in the area. David continued to work for the Apache Rattlesnake Association giving programs on safety awareness at schools and presenting the live shows in the snake pit during the festival. He is survived by: His wife, Laveta, of the home; 2 sons - Clarence and wife, Sheree Fortney Lawton, OK, Michael and wife, Kim Fortney Chattanooga, OK; 1 step-son - Bob Wise Apache, OK; 1 step-daughter - Patti Mansel Lawton, OK; 12 grandchildren - Kellan Fortney, Kevan Reese, Brian Fortney, Rusty Fortney, Zerrae Fortney, J.R. Lindsey, Kristen Molloy, Sarah Mansel, Tina Keough, Angie Partee, Jamie Wise, Erica Wise; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; 1 brother and his wife - Eugene and Jeannie Fortney Austin, TX; A brother-in-law that was like his own brother - Ronnie and Florine Orf and Family Apache, OK; His beloved companion, his dog, Jesse. He was preceded in death by: His parents; 1 son - Kevin Fortney; 1 brother - Donald Milford Fortney. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6th at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Kerry Glasgow officiating and assisted by Ronnie Orf Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Crews Funeral Home. |
