© Crews Funeral Home Apache, Caddo CO, Oklahoma February 2010 February 14, 1911 ~ February 21, 2010 Funeral for Margaret Leola Beavers Dixon, 99, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Apache with the Rev. Leon Shade officiating. Ms. Dixon passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at her home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Apache, under direction of Crews Funeral Home. Margaret Leola Beavers Dixon was born February 14, 1911, on the family farm in Snyder, to Herschel and Della Johnson Beavers. The family farm was built on land Herschel had won in the Oklahoma land lottery. The family later traded the land in Snyder for farmland north of Apache in the Broxton area. After graduating from high school, Leola worked for the Post Exchange system on Fort Sill during and after Word War II. She also worked in different positions in the family dairy stores of Johnson's Milk and Ice Cream, Lawton. Leola married Virgil Dixon on Aug. 27, 1947, in Chandler. Mr. Dixon died Jan. 7, 1988, in Ada. They owned and managed businesses and property in Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. They moved 17 times during their marriage pursuing their business interests. After retirement, Ms. Dixon lived in Anadarko, until she moved to Lawton in 1997. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Apache. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and was always doing a remodeling project of some kind. She is survived by one stepson, Ron and Ruth Dixon, Liberty, Texas; one brother, Ralph Beavers, Lawton; two nephews: Gayle and Rosie Beavers, Apache; Darrel and Karen Beavers, Lawton; two nieces: Betty Wilson, Apache; Cindy Beavers, Lawton; and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one stepson, Jack Dixon; four brothers and their wives: Albert and Pearl Beavers, Hugh Beavers, Irven and Mildred Beavers and Leonard and Esther Beavers; two nephews: Jerry Wilson and Jim Beavers; and one niece, Ladonna Miller. |
