George Kenneth Derby
February 9, 1920 ~ July 12, 2007


Apache - Funeral for George Kenneth Derby, 87, of Apache, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Crews Funeral Home Chapel, Apache, with David Bonner, minister, Gore Boulevard Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Apache.

Mr. Derby died Thursday, July 12, 2007, at his home.

He was born February 9, 1920, west of Apache, to Frank and Hattie Derby.

He graduated from Apache High School in 1938.

He married Ellen Beatrice Derby on April 5, 1942, at the Holy City of the Wichitas. She died Feb. 1, 2007.

In 1944, he worked on the Manhattan Project in Richmond, Wash. He moved back to the Apache area in 1945, where he managed the Grimes Oil and Gas Refinery. In 1953, he moved to Healdton, where he worked at the Signal Gas Plant. He returned to Apache in 1964 and worked for Civil Service at Fort Sill until he retired in 1985.

He was a member of Gore Boulevard Church of Christ in Lawton.

Survivors include two sons, George Kenneth Derby Jr., and David Keith Derby, both of Apache; four daughters, Sharon Ann Cleveland, Truth or Consequences, N.M., Alice Suellen "Sue" Sovo, Elgin, Jewel Kathleen "Kathy" McCarty, Edmond, and Tessa Colleen Widmer, Maysville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and eight brothers and sisters.

October 18, 1921 ~ February 1, 2007


Apache - Funeral for Ellen Beatrice "Bea" [Lake] Derby, 85, of Apache, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Crews Funeral Home Chapel, Apache, with David Bonner, Midland, Texas, officiating.

Mrs. Derby died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at her home.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Apache.

She was born Oct. 18, 1921, west of Apache, to William Riley and Alice Clara Lake.

She graduated from Apache High School in 1938, and then got her associate's degree.

She married George Kenneth Derby on April 5, 1942, at the Holy City of the Wichitas.

She was employed as a public accountant and bookkeeper until she retired. She lived in or near Apache most of her life except for ten years in Healdton, and two years in Richland, Wash.

She was a member of Gore Boulevard Church of Christ. She was also a member of the National and Oklahoma Societies of Public Accountants, the Oklahomans for Integrity in Government, and the Caddo County Republican Party, where she had served as past chairman. She was a past member and officer of the Apache Chamber of Commerce and the Apache Ambulance Board. She also was also former Cub Scout Leader.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons, George Kenneth Derby Jr., and David Keith Derby, both of Apache; four daughters, Sharon Ann Cleveland, Truth or Consequences, N.M., Alice Suellen "Sue" Sovo, Elgin, Jewell Kathleen "Kathy" McCarty, Oklahoma City, and Tessa Colleen Widmer, Maysville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William "Bill" Lake; and two sisters, Jewell Reiss and Geneva Thompson.
