© Crews Funeral Home Apache, Caddo CO, Oklahoma March 2017 January 30, 1928 ~ March 12, 2017 Sonia Caldwell passed gracefully from her rich days on this earth to a glory, assured by Jesus Christ whom she trusted wholly. Her Glory Train departed on Sunday morning, March 12, 2017. Most certainly, she was ushered into God's presence as a VIP. There, she began to sing--singing as never before the wonder and praise of her Creator, and all of heaven listened. The angels and prophets all agreed that the Father had outdone Himself when he created her voice. Before leaving on the Glory Train from Apache, Oklahoma, Sonia waved "good-bye for now" to her best, good boy-friend and husband of 62 years, Oscar Caldwell. Together, they raised three children: Dallas Caldwell, who lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, with his wife Joan Caldwell; Darren Caldwell of Blanchard, Oklahoma, with his wife Diana; and Danyne Caldwell Vice, and husband Kevin, of Apache. All three Caldwell children modeled themselves after their Mom and Dad. The kids have been married 42 years, 39 years, and 35 years, respectively. Sonia was noted for her wealth. She was a very rich woman; Oscar and Sonia have seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. All have been Sonia's pride and joy. Besides being blessed with a family who loved her passionately, she was noted for her unique voice--an extraordinary singer. Sonia had two records to her credit and a lifetime of memorable performances. In fact, she began singing on stage at age five, and by 13, she sang with the Bob Wills Band. She was also an artist who painted, designed, and created many precious works. She was a genealogist, antique aficionado, and extraordinary seamstress. Her life's calling was that of a caring wife and nurturing mother. She also worked for many years alongside Oscar in the Caldwell Barber Shop as the town's "lady barber." Sonia was a leader in the Apache community and was inducted into the city record as a town treasure. Sonia was endowed with precious friends and relationships built in the Apache community over 54 years. Her church, the First Pentecostal Church, has been an extended family and bulwark of faith. Sonia was incredibly blessed. She adored her father, Ray Bullard, who passed when she was only 39, and was blessed to share life with her mother, Rosalie, until 2001. Sonia's oldest sister, Donna--also of Apache--passed in 2001. Two more older siblings, Monta Ray Brummer of Wichita, Kansas, and Barr Bullard of Midlothian, Texas, survive her. Sonia was born January 20, 1938 and spent her early childhood in Cheyenne Valley, near Fairview, Oklahoma. Her family moved to various towns in southern Kansas, where she met Oscar "Shane" Caldwell. After a brief courtship, they married on October 30, 1954, in Kingman, and she graduated from Kingman High School in 1955. As one of the most recent arrivals and new residents of Heaven, she appeared before the Great Judgment Throne, where she has professed no righteousness of her own. She has, however, fallen into the arms of mercy--a sinner cloaked in the righteousness of her Lord. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 15th at 2:00 P.M. at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church with her son, Dallas Caldwell officiating, and assisted by Rev. Bud Jones and Pastor Caleb McDowell. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery of Apache under the direction of Crews Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are her grandchildren-Mandi Risner, Dace Martinez, Derrek Caldwell, Dallas E. Caldwell, Deah Caldwell, Deacon Vice and Devin Vice. Memorial contributions may be given to the Music Fund at First Pentecostal Holiness Church. |
