He passed away at the University hospital in Oklahoma City Thursday, March 28, after being seriously ill for the past two months. Funeral services were held at the Apache Christian church Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the Apache cemetery under the auspices of Post 225 of the American Legion, military honors being accorded him at the grave. Mr. Cain was well known here where he lived for a number of years before and after the war. He served in the Army during the World war, being a member of the 305th Motor Transport corps and was sent to France. He received a severe injury to one of his knees when he was caught in a tractor and was shell shocked twice. Upon his return to America at the close of the war he was in a hospital for seven months before being discharged. Altho a large man who hardly knew his strength when he was at his best, he never fully regained his health after the war. Chas. D. Cain was born at Quannah, Texas May 15, 1891 and at the time of his death was 43 years, 10 months and 23 days of age. As a child he came with his parents to Oklahoma and lived in different parts of the state, locating at Carnegie in 1914. He was married to Miss Nancy Samuels at Carnegie August 21, 1920 and to this union four children were born. Since 1928 he has made his home in Apache. Besides the widow and children he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Cain of Sayre, and four brothers and four sisters, including; J.W. and M.D. Cain and Mrs. Fannie Montgomery, Sayre; Wm. Cain, Butler, Mo.; M.C. Cain, Carnegie; Mrs. Edna Denton, Shawnee; Mrs. Dollie Edna Denton, Shawnee; Mrs. Dollie Denton, Levelland, Texas; and Mrs. Annie Henthorne, Phoenix, Ariz., all of whom except the latter were present at the funeral. |
© Lawton Constitution Lawton, Oklahoma April 8, 2009 September 4, 1917 ~ April 7, 2009 Broxton - Funeral for Docie Mae Cain, Broxton, Okla., will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Anadarko Church of Christ, with Robert Dyer officiating. Mrs. Cain died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, in Chickasha, Okla. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Apache, under direction of Crews Funeral Home of Apache. She was born Sept. 4, 1917, in Broxton, to Edward Alonzo and Dora Estell Miller Holland. She graduated from Broxton High School and married Alfred Hershel Cain on October 31, 1936. They lived in the Broxton community, where she was the school lunch room manager. They moved to Anadarko in 1968, and she managed Anadarko's lunch room. After retiring from Anadarko School, she worked with D.H.S. as a caregiver until she retired from that position in 2002. She delivered meals from the Senior Nutrition Center and was a member of A.A.R.P. She was a quilter and a gardener. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. and Verla Cain, and David and Vicky Cain, all of Anadarko; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Deborah Coyle, Deanna and Edward Dunbar, Randy and Laurie Cain-Morris, Edward Cain, Dana and Steven Ladyman, Angela and Barry Law, and Shelly and Eric Thompson; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Lois Lansford, Purcell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great-granddaughter, Dakota Cheyenne Cain; an infant sister, Dollie Belle Holland; and four brothers, Clifton Holland, Clyde Holland, Wilson Holland and Lloyd Holland. |
© Crews Funeral Home Apache, Caddo CO, Oklahoma October 2011 September 12, 1939 ~ October 27, 2011 Charles Edward Cain of Anadarko, Oklahoma was born September 12, 1939 in Broxton, OK to Alfred Hershel and Docie Mae [Holland] Cain. He passed away at his home east of Anadarko on October 27th at the age of 71. He married Verla Mae Lewis on November 7, 1959 in Weatherford, TX, they have been married nearly 52 years. Charles served in the US Navy for over 22 years before retiring as a Senior Chief. He served during the Vietnam Era and was very proud of his service. After his retirement from the Navy, he worked for Western Farmer's Electric as an electrician and had also supervised the maintenance shop. He taught classes at Caddo-Kiowa Technical Center in Ft. Cobb, as well. Charles had many interests. He belonged to the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of the Gold Prospectors Club, the Gem Society, the 49ers Club, the Weaver Club and the Roadrunners Club. He was especially creative and liked to quilt, work stained glass, do needlework, macrame` and woodworking. He farmed wheat and raised cattle. He also raised other animals such as ostriches, chinchillas, and goats. He was a member of the Oak Street Church of Christ in Apache. His greatest love was spending time with his family and friends. © Crews Funeral Home Apache, Caddo CO, Oklahoma July 2017 Edward Dewayne "Eddie" Cain June 25, 1964 ~ September 25, 2017 Edward Dewayne “Eddie” Cain of Clinton, OK was born June 25, 1964 in Anadarko, OK to Charles Edward and Verla Mae [Lewis] Cain. He passed away September 25, 2017 in Clinton, OK at the age of 53. Eddie graduated from Broxton High School and entered the Army, serving in the Honduras and South Korea before his honorable discharge. He attended college to obtain his LPN license. He was married and to this union, three children were born. He worked for several area hospitals, a nursing home in Pauls Valley and the Oklahoma City VA Center before being diagnosed with cancer. Eddie enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was a member of the 1st Assembly of God Church in Anadarko. He is survived by: 1 son - Elijah Cain-Harris Newcastle, OK, 1 daughter - Brittany Cain-Harris Ninnekah, OK, His mother - Verla Cain, Anadarko, 2 sisters - Deborah Cain, Anadarko, Laurie Cain, Anadarko. He was preceded in death by: His father - Charles Cain, 1 daughter - Dakota Cheyenne Cain, 1 sister - DeAnna Dunbar. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 2nd at 2:00 P.M. at the 1st Assembly of God in Anadarko with Pastor Roger Resten officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Apache. Arrangements are under the direction of Crews Funeral Home. |
