© Lawton Constitution Lawton, Oklahoma Tuesday, December 27, 1926 1923 ~ December 26, 1926 Diphtheria Takes Life Of Girl Three-Year-Old Daughter Of Mr and Mrs Sam Byer Is Dead Irene Lois Byers, three-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Sam Byers, who reside 18 miles northwest of Lawton, died at 9:30 Saturday night, following a two days illness of diphtheria. Mr and Mrs Byers with their vhildren, had only moved to this county about three weeks ago coming from Oklahoma City. They have one other child, a girl Grace, aged 13. The following aunts and uncles of the child will attend the funeral, Mr and Mrs Tom Gillock, Mr and Mrs Duke Stallings, Charles Byers and Orval Byers, all of Oklahoma City, Mr and Mrs Bert Shanklin, northwest of Lawton, Mrs Jerry Klaus, Sterling, Mrs Earl Skimmerhorn and Mrs Ed Reece, both of Apache. Private funeral services will be held Tuesday morning but the exact time or place or who will conduct the services has not yet been decided. The funeral was private, and only relatives were present.
