Lawton, Oklahoma Sunday, May 16, 2010 December 27, 1954 ~ May 8, 2010 APACHE Word has been received of the death of Raymond Ernest Brown, 55, Apache. Mr. Brown died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at his home in Apache. He passed in peace surrounded by family, friends, and his faithful companion, Max. Arrangements are under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Ray was born Dec. 27, 1954, in Schenectady, N.Y., to William and Marilyn Davis Brown. He grew up and attended school in Middleburgh, N.Y., before moving to Macon, Ga., around the age of 15. After a few years in Macon, he volunteered and enlisted in the United States Army where he spent 22 years of honorable service, eventually retiring at the grade of first sergeant. During his time in the Army, where he was a career Field Artillery soldier, he spent several years in Germany, Korea, and Fort Sill. Toward the end of his military career, he and his wife happily decided to settle down in beautiful Apache. He transitioned from career soldier to full-time successful fisherman and hunter, as well as a part-time farmer. He loved nothing more than riding horses, being on the lake, or sitting in a deer stand. Also, some of the happiest times in his life were spent with his beautiful grandson who was named after him, Lucas Raymond Brown, who he referred to as "grandpa's little man." Following retirement, he spent several years working at Jim's Car Care. Additionally, he also attended Fort Cobb Vo-Tech where he pursued a degree in networking and was a proud member of the National Honor Society. He spent his last years cruising Oklahoma and Texas on his much-beloved Harley Davidson with his wife right behind him and his son, Mike, right next to him. Ray was an inspiration to everyone, and anyone he ever touched was better because of it. He will be truly missed but he is in a much better place now. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 37 years, Paulette Brown, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Charles and Kristen Brown, Dallas; and Michael Brown, Apache; his grandson, Lucas Raymond Brown, Dallas; his mother and his stepfather, Marilyn "Tina" and Wayne Freeman, Byron, Ga.; his brother, Kenneth Brown, Warner Robins, Ga.; and his sister, Sharon Watson, Warner Robins, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father, William Brown; and his brother, Danny Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prostate Cancer Fund, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401, or to the Hospice of Southwest Oklahoma, 1930 NW Ferris, Suite 5, Lawton, OK 73507.
