© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, April 11, 1951 Otho Jason Taylor Eakly, April 11.--Services for O.J. Taylor were at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Eakly Assembly of God church with Brother George Newby of Pawhuska, former pastor, preaching the funeral sermon,. He was assisted by Brother E.E. Johnson, pastor. Burial was in the Eakly cemetery. Mr. Taylor died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at his home three miles north and two east of Alfalfa after a long illness. He had been in failing health for the past 10 years and for two years was too ill to to carry on his farming operations. Otho Jason Taylor was born March 2, 1884, at Queens, Upsher county, West Virginia. He came to Oklahoma in 1901 and located on Cobb creek near Alfalfa. For a number of years he was a rural mail carrier out of Eakly in the horse-and-buggy days. He was married to Miss Amanda Lee Nov. 26, 1916, at Eakly. Most of his active life wad spent in farming. In 1947 Mr. and Mrs. Taylor spent a year in Fort Madison, Iowa. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Amanda Taylor of the home; four sons, Herbert W. Taylor, Alfalfa; Connie M. Taylor, Fort Worth; Edsel Taylor, Hydro, and Donald, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Maud Powell, Elkins, W.Va., and Mrs. Ada Blake, Everton, Ark., and six brothers, N. Phay Taylor, Elkins, W.Va., O.W. Taylor, Carnegie, Bert Taylor, Beverly, W.V.a, Roy AH. Taylor, Littlefield, Texas; Glenn Taylor, Alfalfa, and Dewey R. Taylor, Decatur, Ark. Also surviving are four grandchildren. Herbert, who has been working in Eureka, Calif., arrived home Tuesday night. Other relatives and friends from a distance who were here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs., Roy Taylor of Littlefield; Floyd Lee, Ottawa, Kan.; Clark Lee and his son, Richard of Fort Madison, Iowa, and John Washburn of Keokuk, Iowa. |
April 6, 2012 Edsel Dane Taylor Edsel Taylor, 86, of Eakly, OK passed away at his home near Eakly on April 6, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born October 8, 1925 to Otha Jason and Amanda Melvina [Lee] Taylor two miles south of Eakly. Edsel attended Banner Grade School near Eakly and graduated from Eakly High School in May of 1942. He married Thelma Modene Rogers on September 15, 1944 Shortly after was drafted into the Army. He served in the 32nd Division of the Red Arrows overseas on the island of Luzon in the Phillipines and fought there along the Villa Verde Trail. After the war he served in Japan guarding Korean prisoners of war on the train as they were being transferred back to Korea. Later he was assigned to an air base in Japan and served eight months as a fire fighter there before being discharged. He originally was inducted into the army, but was discharged out of the Army Air Corp in 1946. Edsel and Modene were married for 67 years until her death in November 2011. From this union four children were born, Dwane, Donna, Judy and Roger. He farmed peanuts for 50 years until he retired in 1997. There wasn't a piece of farm equipment he couldn't fix if he set his mind to it. He loved to watch the old western movies after he became ill and couldn't do much outside. Edsel never met a stranger and made friends where ever he happened to be. He is survived by three children, Edsel Dwane Taylor, of Weatherford, OK Roger Lyndell and wife Tammy of Eakly, OK One daughter Donna Joyce Lawrence of Eakly, OK Twelve Grandchildren: Alesia Vance, Brooke Taylor, Sharla Sharry, AJ Lawrence, Lacy Kestler, Jason Stuteville, Jade McKay, Jaysa Wyatt, Hope Gardner, Mathew Taylor, Nathan Taylor, Natalie Taylor Twenty one great-grandchildren: Taylor Brophy, Garrett Vance, Turner Sharry, Thomas Allin, Miles and Chloe Lawrence, Kayla Shantz, Dacy Parrish, Jaiden Kestler, Tori, Tanner and Colton Stuteville, Brand, Cage and Stone McKay, Taya and Tallys Wyatt, Aria and Alden Gardner , Kamryn and Zander Taylor. Four great-great grandchildren: Crosslyn Gracia, Lionel and Mason Shantz, and Kamberlyn Parrish. One brother, Donald Taylor and wife Nelda of Fritch, TX One sister-in-law, Lula May Taylor of Bedford, TX and a number of nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Modene, his parents, two brothers, two baby sisters, his daughter Judy Ray, one granddaughter, McKyna Sharry Gracia Services: 2:00p.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Assembly of God Church, Eakly, OK. © Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Monday November 21, 2011 Thelma Modene [Rogers] Taylor Modene Taylor, 85, of Eakly, OK passed away Monday November 21, 2011. She was born June 19, 1926 to Oscar Ezra and Eletha Alpha [Thompson] Rogers 3 miles South of Eakly. She started to school at Colony, Oklahoma and then Banner Grade School near Eakly and graduated from Eakly High School in May of 1944. She married Edsel Dane Taylor on September 15, 1944 and shortly after Edsel was drafted into the Army. Modene stayed with Edsel's folks, Othal Jason Taylor and Amanda Melvina Lee Taylor, until he returned after the war. Edsel & Modene owned and farmed for 56 years on the farm she was born on. To this union four children were born, Edsel Dwane, Donna Joyce, Judy Eletha and Roger Lyndel. She was a homemaker as well as always helping on the farm right along with Edsel and the kids by hoeing peanuts, sacking peanuts, moving irrigation pipe, raising a garden, canning, cooking and quilting. Modene was a long time member of the Assembly of God Church in Eakly, Oklahoma and attended church there for many years and loved the Lord very much. She was a member of the Assembly of God Women's Ministries Group and the Oklahoma Home and Community Education Group. She enjoyed cooking and baking for the many church and club activities. Everyone loved Modene's "Strawberry Cake", "Banana Pudding", "Homemade Cobbler's", "Potato Salad", and especially her "SPECIAL Cole Slaw". Everyone would look for her Strawberry Cake on the dessert table first to see if Modene had brought one. She loved her family very much along with her grand, great and great-great grandchildren. They were all her pride and joy. She always carried a picture of each one of them where ever she went. She is survived by her husband Edsel of the home Three Children, Dwane Taylor & Sonya Patterson of Yukon, Donna Lawrence of Eakly, Roger & wife Tammy of Eakly. Twelve grandchildren, Alesia Vance, Brooke Taylor, Sharla Sharry, AJ Lawrence, Lacy Kestler, Jason Stuteville, Jade McKay, Jaysa Wyatt, Hope Gardner, Matthew Taylor, Nathan Taylor, Natalie Taylor. Rogers and Forrest Gene Rogers and 2 Sisters, Ruby Rogers and Ima Lois Mott. Services were Friday November 25, 2011 at 2:00pm, Officiating were Brother Benny Tipton and Rev Lewis Brown. |
