Oglesby Funeral services for one of Caddo county's best known pioneers were held at the Eakly Methodist church at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon when final rites for T.J. Oglesby were observed. Burial was in the Eakly cemetery. Rev. E.E. Sullens, Methodist pastor, was in charge of the services. Mr. Oglesby died Sunday at the home of his daughter in Anadarko after an illness of a few weeks. Lacking only a few days of reaching his 84th birthday at the time of his death, Mr. Oglesby had remained alert and active until he was stricken with his last illness. Born in Illinois, Mr. Oglesby spent the greater part of his early life in Kansas before coming to Oklahoma and settling near Eakly in 1901, where he has been connected with the development of his community and county. |

Oglesby, 81, of the Eakly community, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 18, at the United Methodist Church in Eakly. Rev. C.J. Willis, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Jesse Haney. Oglesby died Thursday, November 15, in an Oklahoma City hospital following a lengthy illness. Interment was in the Eakly cemetery. Guy Harrison Oglesby was born June 26, 1892 in Indian Territory. His family settled on a homestead near Eakly in 1902. Oglesby attended the former Hopewell school for eight years, and later attended Southwestern Normal School in Weatherford and the Guthrie Business college. Oglesby served in the United States Army in France during World War I. He was married to the former Helen Willis August 18, 1920 in Oklahoma City. They had resided in the Eakly area since that time. He worked in the Eakly bank until 1923. He moved to the family homestead in 1936. He had served on the Hopewell and Eakly boards of education 38 years; the Farmers Co-op Gin board 23 years and was a director of the county Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service 35 years and was active in the North Caddo County Soil Conservation Service. He is survived by his wife, of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Paul Crossgrove of Salinas, Calif.; Mrs. Robert Smith of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Richard Girts of Anadarko and Kay Oglesby of the home; two sons, Ray Gene and Guy, Jr., both of Eakly; 12 grandchildren; a brother, John R. Oglesby of Conyers, Ga., and three sisters, Mrs. Murl Harrison and Mrs. Beulah Loomis of Anadarko, and Mrs. Elsie Lawson of Long Beach, Calif. |
Eakly, Oklahoma August 2014 August 10, 1938 ~ August 9, 2014 Donna was born August 10, 1938, in Eakly, Oklahoma to Archie and Imogene [Enyart] Moore and passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014, at United Methodist Health Care Center in Clinton, Oklahoma. Donna was raised and attended school in Eakly, Oklahoma and graduated from Eakly High School in 1956. On November 27, 1956, she married Rea Gene Oglesby and they made their home in Eakly, Oklahoma. Donna attended the Eakly United Methodist Church. She was an active member. Donna served as Sunday school teacher, MYF director, and helped with many activities. Donna loved her church. Donna joined the Home Demonstration Club, now OHCE, in 1959. She was a member for 55 years, Donna held multiple local positions and also served as Caddo County President. In the late 1990’s, she was voted Oklahoma Homemaker of the Year. Donna is survived by one daughter, Traci Archer and husband, Junior of Clinton, Oklahoma; two sons, Matt Oglesby and wife, Vicki of Tomball, Texas and Todd Oglesby of Eakly, Oklahoma; two sisters, Linda Hooker of Duncan, Oklahoma and Helen Horn of Richardson, Texas; three brothers, Roger Moore and wife, Becky of Eakly, Oklahoma, Bobby Moore and wife, Brenda of Carnegie, Oklahoma, and Rocky Moore and wife, Ingrid of Ashland, Oregon; seven grandchildren, Devin Oglesby and wife, Ashley of Edmond, Oklahoma, Colin Eckersley of Houston, Texas, Erin Oglesby of Tomball, Texas, Hunter Oglesby of Hinton, Oklahoma, Laken Thornton and husband, Cody of Hinton, Oklahoma, Colby Archer of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Jacob Archer of Clinton, Oklahoma; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail Oglesby and Taver Thornton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Imogene Moore; husband, Rea Gene Oglesby; and one grandson, Payton Kole Oglesby. Funeral services for Donna Gene [Moore] Oglesby, 75 years-old Eakly, Oklahoma resident, will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2014, 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Eakly with Virgil Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Eakly Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home. |
© Cordell Beacon Cordell, Washita CO, Oklahoma December 2002 September 21, 1960 ~ December 29, 2002 Funeral services for Troy Don Oglesby, 42, of Edmond, formerly of Eakly, were held on Friday, January 3, 2002 in the Eakly Methodist Church, with Dale Hirschman and Rev. Roger Parker officiating. Services were under the direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home in Clinton, Oklahoma. Troy was born September 21, 1960, in Andrews, Texas, to Guy Harrison, Jr. and Melba [Denney] Oglesby and passed away December 29, 2002 in Monte Vista, Colorado. Troy moved with his family at an early age to Eakly and graduated from Eakly High School in 1979. He was very active in sports, FFA, and 4-H. He excelled in baseball and basketball and received a scholarship to Murray State College, Durant, and Southwestern Oklahoma State, where he graduated in 1984 with a B.S. degree in Business. He married Danna Rae Teeter on December 20, 1986 in Eakly. The couple made their home in Oklahoma City where Troy worked for Associates Financial Services for 8 years. He also worked for Commercial Credit, Center Home Equity and First Plus. He had been employed with R&K Plumbing in Garland, Texas for the past 18 months. Troy was an outgoing person with lots of interests. He enjoyed the computer, playing Playstation, collecting newspapers, tinkering with tools, reading, gardening, being outdoors, shooting, playing cards, playing baseball, following OU football, being involved in his kids activities, grilling out, music, especially the Eagles. He was a member of the Eakly First United Methodist Church and had been attending the Edmond Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Danna of the home; two daughters, Jordan and Landre; and a son Parker, all of the home; his parents Guy, Jr. and Melba of Eakly, 2 brothers; Guy, III and his wife Sherie, of Broken Arrow, and Johnny of Dallas, Texas; his in laws, Frank and Donna Rogers, Houston, Texas and Richard and Sue Teeter, Valley View, Texas; brother-in-law Brant Teeter of Florida; sister-in-law Angela Teeter, of Edmond, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his neice and nephews, Jeff Oglesby, Amanda Oglesby, and Lindsay Oglesby, all of Sacremento, California; Travis Oglesby and Taylor Oglesby, both of Broken Arrow and Samantha Teeter and Cashion Teeter, both of Edmond. His uncles and aunts, Bob Smith, of Weatherford, Donna Oglesby, of Eakly; Jerry and Kay Williams, of Eakly; Bob and Gail Gerdeman, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Norma Sturman of Prague; Jim and Vicki Teeter, of Balch Springs, Texas and Darryl and Ginger Hamblin of Clinton. He is also survived by his cousins, Kenda and Rocky Earl, Garland, Texas; Matt and Vicki Oglesby, Woodland, Texas; Todd Oglesby, Eakly; Tracy and Jr. Archer, Clinton and Misty Williams of Weatherford. |
