Bud Scoggins

Services for Rutherford B. "Bud" Scoggins, 74, of Cyril were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 30, at the Cyril First Christian Church with Rev. Larry Sweeney, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Scoggins was born July 31, 1918 in Blair and died Thursday, August 27, 1992 in Chickasha.

He started his first business at the age of 13. He opened the B & M Store in 1955 and the Scoggins Furniture Stoe in 1962. He retired in January 1980, but continued to help his son, Jerry in the family business. He was active in the Cyril community, chairing the drive to start the Cyril Hospital and the Cyril Ambulance Service. He was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as chairman of the board. He was former member of the Cyril Independent Order of Oddfellows.

He and the former Ila E. Pelzer, were married July 4, 1939 in Anadarko.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Jerry W. Scoggins of Cyril; two sisters, Ellen McAdoo of Anadarko and Lois Kemp of Cyril; three grandchildren, Thela Short and Justin, both of Cyril, and Rick Scoggins of Wylie, Texas, and three great grandchildren.

Burial was in Celestial Gardens Cemetery under direction of Cyril Funeral Home.

The casket was open for viewing until 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home but was closed during the services at the church.

Ila E. Scoggins of Cyril, OK was born August 23, 1921 on her family's farm near Cyril to Ernest Albert and Laura [Edwards] Pelzer.

She passed away May 13, 2013 in Anadarko.

As a young girl, she attended Caddo Pride Country school before going in to town for school. She graduated from Cyril High School.

She married Rutherford B. "Bud" Scoggins July 4, 1939 in Cyril.

She and her husband owned and operated Bud's Grocery and later, Scoggins Home Furnishings. She also worked for Woodward's Dry Goods. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Apache and attended the First Christian Church of Cyril. Ila enjoyed crappie fishing and was an excellent seamstress.

She also loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by: Her son and his wife - Jerry and Sharon Scoggins Cyril, OK, 3 grandchildren - Rick and wife, Lisa Scoggins; Thela and husband, Richard Short; Justin and wife, Katie Reeder, 11 great-grandchildren-Adam Scoggins, Chad Scoggins, Monica Scoggins, Trent Scoggins, Caleb Short, Jera and husband, Todd Smith, Jacob Short, Micaela Short, Destiny Short, Gemma Fugate, Sophie Reeder, 2 great-great grandchildren - Ryder Smith, Rowdy Smith.

She was preceded in death by: Her parents, Her husband, 1 sister- Helen Williams

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 15th at 10:30 A.M. at First Christian Church of Cyril with Pastor Delbert McCurley, officiating, and assisted by Rev. Dr. Bill Schneider. Burial will follow at Celestial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Cyril Funeral Home.
