Burial will be at the Celestial Gardens Cemetery at Cyril, Oklahoma, under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Thomas was born on March 27th, 2011, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Ian Jacob Robbins and Tiffany Nicole Golden Survivors include his parents of the home; two brothers, Aiden Ray Robbins and Gavin James Robbins both of the home; his grandparents, Shelly Golden and Jeff King of Lawton, Oklahoma, Dee and Wayne Hileman of Kerrville, Texas, Preston Weeden, of Texas, Larry Robbins of San Pedro, California; great grandparents, Patricia and Maxwell McGregor of Wills Pointe, Texas; aunts and uncles: Amber and Matt Tate, Savannah Golden, Leah and Justin "Jay" Lewis, Adrian Robbins, Alex Robbins, J.T. Miller, Phill Robbins, Scott Robbins, and Bryan Robbins. He was preceded in death by his uncle Thomas McDaniel Jr., great grandparents Ray and Shirley Golden, Sally and Frank Ward, James Miller, Robbie Robbins, Jeffene and Dave Sherlock. Doctors at the OU Medical Center told Tiffany Golden and Ian Robbins that their son, Thomas Robbins, might not even make it through that first day when they delivered him via an emergency C-Section on March 27, 2011, after only 25 weeks gestation. He weighed 2 pounds and was 13 inches long at birth and remained hospitalized until Sept. 1. The few months of his life were anything but easy for the Golden/Robbins family. Once they took him home, both parents were unable to work most of the time. Thomas required 24/7 care, and an in-home nurse was not covered by insurance. He was diagnosed with meningitis three times, endured eight brain surgeries and more than 20 spinal taps. Amber Tate, Tiffany Golden's sister, said one of the parents had to be awake to provide care for Thomas at all times. "If one of them would have accidentally fallen asleep and did not hear his machines go off, then he would have died right then," she said. Thomas stopped breathing on Dec. 31. Tate said Golden began performing CPR on the infant while Robbins called 9-1-1, and Golden continued until the paramedics arrived on the scene. The emergency crew continued compressions, but by the time he reached the hospital Thomas had gone 20 minutes with no pulse. The infant was pronounced dead upon arrival, but the emergency crew was eventually able to revive a faint pulse and Thomas was quickly flown to OU Medical Center. Doctors told the family that Thomas would not make it much longer. Tate said Robbins and Golden decided it was best if Thomas were taken off the machines. Today, the family is coping not only with the loss of their son but also with expenses left uncovered by insurance and from the funeral. Events have been set up to provide many opportunities for the community to help. "My sister and Ian are great parents," Tate said. "I hate to see them going through something like this. I just want to help them as much as we can." There will be a fundraiser from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the El Chico restaurant in Central Mall. If at least 50 patrons visit on behalf of the family, 5 percent of sales will be donated; if 100 show up, the donation rises to 10 percent. Memorial contributions may be made in leiu of flowers to a fund at Arvest Bank for Tiffany Golden. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8pm. |
