July 25, 2015 Alice Benton Whorton Raney A memorial service for Alice Raney will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Cyril church of Christ, Cyril, Oklahoma with Douglas Graham officiating. She passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Alice Benton [Whorton] Raney was born September 21, 1929 in Atkins, Arkansas to Grover and Ola [Wright] Whorton. She attended school in Atkins, Arkansas where she was a member of the basketball team. Alice and JD Blackburn were married in Atkins. They had two sons, Keith and Mike. Later two more sons, Rodney and Phillip, were added to her family when she married Preston Raney. All of her life Alice was a hard worker. Whether working in the cotton fields, preparing school meals in Tucker, Arkansas or Fletcher, Oklahoma, or inking heels in the shoe factory in Russellville, Arkansas, she did her absolute best. Alice's favorite jobs were that of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her love of God was deep. She became a Christian as a young woman. Alice was an active member of the Cyril church of Christ. She could be found cooking for teen devo, funeral dinners, or for the sick or shut-in. She truly loved God, her family, and her church family. Survivors include her four sons and their wives: Keith and Susan Blackburn, Mike and Carol Blackburn of Fletcher, Rodney and Sherrie Raney of Comanche, and Phillip and Sheila Raney of Marlow. Her grandchildren: Tina and Donnie Simmons of Gowan, Michigan, Molly and Chris Hrbacek of Apache, April and Jason Norwood of New York, Jennifer Raney of OKC, Lydia and Sean Morris of Duncan, Hannah Raney and Jacob Raney of Marlow, Tim Brennan of Nashville, Tennessee, Phillip and Alisa Brennan of Greeley, Colorado. Great-grandchildren: Michael Simmons of Fletcher, Derek Blackburn, Cameron Hrbacek, Ava Hrbacek all of Apache, DeeDeeMcCombs of Fletcher, Sam Brennan, Mathew Brennan, Hannah Brennan, Xavier, Aidan and Huston Norwood, Skyla and Aiden Wilson, and Baby Morris to be arrive in January. Alice is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends she dearly loved. Preceding her in death are her parents: Grover and Ola Whorton, a stepmother: Essie Whorton, two step-brothers: H.E. Hubbard and Wallace Hubbard, a step-sister: Lois Lee Keener, a brother-in-law: Charles May, a nephew: Billy Darrel Watson, and both husbands. The family will greet friends Wednesday, July 29 from 6-8 at the funeral home. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28 and Wednesday, July 29 at Fletcher Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Cyril church of Christ. |
