Bennie Ercell Nix
December 29, 1920 ~ June 29, 2017


Bennie Ercell Nix Of Cyril, OK passed away at the age of 96 on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Lawton-Ft. Sill Veterans Center where he resided this past year.

He was born on December 29, 1920 to James Arthur and Hattie Owen Nix at the old homestead on what is now Goodyear Blvd. in Lawton, OK. He graduated from Cache High School in 1940 and was employed with Civil Service at Ft. Sill in 1941.

Bennie entered active service with the US Army September 1942 through October 23, 1945 having served with the 81st Station Hospital as a Surgical Tech in South Africa and Italy. He returned to Civil Service December 1945, retiring January 6, 1977.

Bennie then worked several years at the Oklahoma Blood Institute in Lawton. He was a long time member of the Masons, Shriners and VFW.

Bennie is survived by his wife of 44 years, Frances Marler Nix, of Cyril; Grandsons Lonnie Ray Nix, Alan Geoffrey Nix and wife, Tamatha of California; Step-daughter Kathryn Dunbar-Dotson and husband Tony, of Texas; 5 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 3 step-great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leonard A. Nix, a sister, Nova Nix Hankins, one son, Lanny Ray Nix, a step-son, David Gaylon Dunbar and a step-great-great grandson.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Saturday, July 1st at 10:00 A.M. at Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Cyril, OK with Chaplain Roger Snow officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Crews Funeral Home.

Leon "Frances" [Marler] Nix
May 7, 1929 ~ February 26, 2020


Leon "Frances" Nix was born in Texas on May 7, 1929, to Clifford Olen and Frances Lavell (Carthers) Marler. She passed away in Cyril, Oklahoma on Wednesday, February 26, with her daughter, Kathryn, by her side. She was 90.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 29, at 11:00A.M. in the Celestial Gardens Cemetery, with Roger Snow officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Crews & Cyril Funeral Homes.

Frances was remarried to Bennie Ercell Nix in 1979 for 44 years until his death in 2017.

She was an exceptional artist. She also loved to raise gardens. Frances also raised parakeets.

She loved her family dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie; parents, Clifford Olen and Frances Lavell Marler; sons, Larry Nix and David Dunbar; and sisters: Mildred O'Day, Irene Arrowood, Laverne Boelen, and Maxine Buckles.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Dunbar-Dotson and husband Tony of Cyril; grandchildren: Davida DaLynn Larkins and husband Nick of Boulder, Colorado, Lonnie Nix of California, Allan Nix and wife Tammy of California, and Melissa Dunbar of Arkansas; great grandchildren: Isabella Blake Larkins and Jada Dunbar; several great great grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Conlan of Fletcher.
