Burial will be at Celestial Gardens Cemetery under direction of the Fletcher Funeral Home. Mrs. James passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, in Lawton. Betty Jo Corbitt was born on February 19, 1952, in Lynden, Texas to Bernal and Oleta [Withrow] Corbitt. She married Mike James on April 14th, 1972. Mike and Betty moved to Cyril soon after and raised their two sons, Jason and Andy among lots of good friends and family. Betty was a career educator. She started as a teacher's aide in Cyril, and after graduating from USAO with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1998, she embarked on her true calling as a 5th grade teacher for Cyril Elementary. Betty's life revolved around her family, her friends, and her students. Betty was known for her quick wit and vivacious love of life. She spent her time preparing amazingly engaging lessons for her students because she wanted them to know the joy of learning. When not working on lessons, Betty spent her time on the go! She would spend most weekends with her best friends Martha Day and Cynthia Malicoat and her sister Barbara Kay going to different places for dinner and entertainment. They also took cruises to see "pretty water". Betty's humor was one thing everyone loved about her. She made other people's day better as they shared a laugh. She is survived by 2 sons: Jason James and wife Amanda and Andy James and wife Jeana; 3 sisters: Barbara Kay Peigare and her husband Mike; Linda Jean Turpin and her husband Melvin; and Brenda McNutt and husband Chip; 4 grandchildren: Rachel Luna and her husband Nick, Katie Jones, Audrey James, and Hunter James, best friend Martha Day, and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and former students. She was preceded in death by her parents: Bernal and Oleta Corbitt, her husband Mike James, her sister Gwen Walston, best friend Cynthia Malicoat, and niece Sara Wittrock.
