Obituary Poem
Written by Wilma Aline [Davis] Hiner
"Davis, in Oklahoma, Grady County, was born.
Fifth child of a farmer on a very cold morn.
'Twas January fifteenth, nineteen hundred thirty-three,
One sister, three brothers, were excited to see!
Young, she stood on a stool and loudly she sang,
Performed, imitating her siblings again and again.
Later, her interest in piano grew strong,
She couldn't resist playing, picking out a new song.
Piano lessons, her mother worked hard to pay,
But her interest diminished day by day.
She wanted to play every piece by ear,
Seldom practiced her lessons, so her teacher she feared.
Each home she visited with a piano around,
Fingers flowed o'er the keys with new sounds she had found.
Friends would entreat, "Come, let's go play!"
Piano she loved dearly, 'twas hard to pull her away.
Improvising she learned mostly on her own,
Playing for churches, others or just enjoyment alone.
'Twas early in life, possibly in her teens,
Beautiful expressions in poetry and melody began to gleam.
Her talent became known by many people around.
She fulfilled numerous requests with amazing rhythmic sounds.
Her lovely writings the world did gain,
As she was elected into
The International Poetry Hall of Fame!"
Survivors include her five children: Kimball Lynn Hiner, Philip Craig Hiner, Charla Renee' Jenkins and husband David, Dana Denise Strader and husband Keith and Kayla Sue Toponce; grandchildren: Philip Scott, TJ, Geoffrey, Joseph, Brittany, Ridge, Royce, Devin, Hayden, Ashton and Matthew; 15 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; brother, Orville Don Davis and wife Judy; sister-in-law LaVeta Davis; and seven fur grandbabies.
