Mamie Lucy [Smith] Anderson

CYRIL Funeral for Mamie Lucy Smith Anderson, 86, Cyril, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Calvary Temple in Cyril.

Mrs. Anderson passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in Cyril.

Burial will be in Celestial Gardens, Cyril, under direction of McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha.

She was born March 27, 1926, in Grady County to Edgar and Mary Smith. She grew up and went to school in the Chickasha area.

She met and married Sgt. Tenley L. Anderson on April 3, 1946, while he served his country during WW II. They established their home in Cyril. Mamie worked for Pet Milk Co. and Kress Department store in Chickasha prior to the marriage. She later worked for Cyril Nursing Home and the Anadarko Clinic. She was elected as Cyril City Treasurer and enjoyed 16 years serving her community. She loved her City Hall family, working beside her best friend, Judy Dawdy, and being a part of our local government.

Mamie always loved and enjoyed children. Mamie and Tenley opened their home to foster children for several years. Mamie, being the next to the youngest of nine children, babysat for most of her nieces and nephews forming strong bonds with them. The brightest spot in her life were her granddaughters and her five great-grandchildren.

Mamie was an avid seamstress and enjoyed making clothes, doll clothes and quilts. She enjoyed collecting antiques, genealogy and traveling. She co-authored with her sister two family tree books in the 1960s. She traveled for several years with her brothers and sisters all over the country, researching genealogy and vacationing.

Survivors include a daughter, Nelda Anderson McMahan; a nephew raised as her son, Carl McDonald; a granddaughter and husband, Kacie and Brandon Pendley; a granddaughter, KaLee Ray; five great-grandchildren: Paige, Cade, Danika, Korbin and KynLee; a sister, Malla McDonald; a brother-in-law, J.L. Cook; many close nieces and nephews and special relatives and friends: Judy Dawdy, Gene Smith and Rick Venable.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Mary and Edgar Smith; her husband, Tenley L. Anderson; two sisters: Sevola Cates and Juanita Burks; and five brothers: Carl, Loran, Elmo, Ray and RB Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cyril Historical Society or cancer research.

Hollis H. "Shorty" Anderson

CYRIL ~ Funeral for Hollis "Shorty" Anderson, 74, Cyril, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cyril First Baptist Church with the Revs. Travis Wollenberg and Charles Echols officiating.

Mr. Anderson died Thursday, May 23, 2002, in Lawton.

Burial will be at Celestial Gardens Cemetery under direction of Cyril Funeral Home.

He was born Dec. 21, 1927, in Fletcher to William Anderson and Clara Scoggins Anderson.

He moved to Cyril with his family at a young age and attended Cyril High School until he was in the 10th grade.

He moved to Watts, graduated from Watts High School, then joined the Army and served during the Korean War. He then served four years in the Navy. When he finished his military service, he returned to Cyril and owned and operated Anderson Food Store for 31 years until he retired in 1988.

He was a longtime member of Cyril United Methodist Church, but attended Cyril First Baptist Church for the past 15 years. He was a volunteer for the Cyril Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, Cyril; two daughters and sons-in-law: Marionette and Bill Jump, Pauls Valley; and Angela and Tim Vaughan, Dallas, Texas; a son, Jack Anderson, Cyril; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Ronnie Spessard, Sterling; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Greg and Dawna Schettler, Sterling; a brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Lee Anderson, New Boston, Texas; a stepbrother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Bonnie Anderson; seven grandchildren: Cody, Jay, Mary, Austin, Taylor, Wilson and Anderson; and a close-knit extended family.

Naomi Lou Anderson

Funeral service for Naomi Lou Anderson, age 76 of Cyril, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, in the Cyril First Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Echols will officiate.

Naomi was born on April 7, 1932. She died on September 2, 2008, in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Naomi grew up in eastern Oklahoma. In 1951, she attended Oklahoma State University where she met and married Raymond Anderson in 1952. They moved to Dumas, Texas in 1958 and in 1972 they moved to Cyril. While in Cyril, she graduated from USAO and later received her masters degree in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. Naomi taught in the Anadarko Public Schools for twenty years.

She was a member of the Cyril First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and her husband.

Survivors include her son, Randy Anderson of Plano, Texas, and two sisters, Betty Reynolds of Chelsea, Oklahoma, and Coralan Easley of Laporte, Texas.

Interment will be in the Celestial Gardens Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay's Cyril Funeral Home.
