Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma Tuesday, July 3, 2007 Leroy Holland "Hal" Zachary Leroy Holland "Hal" Zachary, age 100, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 2:10 a.m. at the Glenhaven Retirement Village in Chickasha, OK. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the Cement United Methodist Church in Cement, Oklahoma. Montie Jones and Galeda Jones officiated. Burial will be at the Cement Cemetery under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Home. The family received guests on Saturday, June 30, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church. Hal was born on August 5, 1906, in Indian Territory to Luman Zachary and Luella [McGhee] Zachary. He married Mildred "Mickey" [Campbell] Zachary on June 1, 1929, in Stillwater, OK. Hal graduated from Cement High School and received a education degree from Oklahoma A&M College. He continued his education with a Masters degree from Oklahoma University. Hal started his teaching career in Ochelata, Oklahoma, in 1929. He served the Cement School District 160 as Superintendent from 1945 to 1961 and finished the last ten years of his career in the Lawton School system. Hal loved to travel, and he loved to fish; but, most of all, he loved his Lord and his family. By the way, did we mention that he and Mickey celebrated their seventy-eighth wedding anniversary on June 1, 2007. Hal is survived by his wife, Mildred "Mickey" of the home; two sons, Dan Zachary and wife Gwen from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Ted Zachary and wife, Sherry from Yukon, Oklahoma; three sisters, Irene Suttle of Owasso, OK., Nettie Belle Wilson of Hereford, Texas, and Phillipi Price of Decatur, GA.; six grandchildren, Phyllis Thompson of Cement, OK., Janet Rice of Oklahoma City, OK., Annette DeVore of Oklahoma City, OK., Mary Kay Zachary of Chickasha, OK., Terri Lynn Greenly of Yukon, OK., and Scott Zachary of Austin, Texas; ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Hal is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jessie and Fred Zachary, one sister, Margaret Wallace, and one grandson, Danny Zachary. |
August 2008 Dan Luman Zachary I Funeral service for Dan Luman Zachary, 76, of Oklahoma City, former Cement resident, was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 15, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Chickasha. Dan Luman Zachary was born October 22, 1931 in Ochelata, Oklahoma the son of Hal and Mildred (Campbell) Zachary and died August 12, 2008 at his home in Oklahoma City. Dan and Gwen Cates were married February 10, 1951 in Laverty, Oklahoma. He graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1953 with a BA degree. He served in the U. S. Air Force as a Major. He served for 18 months in Viet Nam. He flew KC-135, and served as an instructor pilot the entire time. He retired in 1972 after 20 years of service. Dan taught 4th grade for 18 years at Cement Public Schools and retired in 1990. Dan also farmed and ranched in the Cement area for almost 20 years. He moved 2 years ago to Oklahoma City. Dan was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha where he served as Sunday School teacher and was chairman of the Deacons. He also organized the coat ministry for the youth in the Chickasha community. Dan lived to fish, talk and tell stories. He loved his children, grandchildren, his family, church and God. His wife, Gwen, was the love of his life for over 57 years. He was very generous and he loved to tell people to have a good day. Dan was preceded in death by: Father: Hal Zachary, 1 son: Danny Zachary. Survivors include: Wife: Gwen Zachary, Children: Phyllis Thompson, Janet Rice, Annette DeVore, Mary Kay Zachary, Mother: Mildred Zachary, 1 brother: Ted Zachary, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild. Interment was at the Cement Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
June 10, 2014 Gwendolyn Ramona "Gwen" [Cates] Zachary Funeral service for Gwendolyn Ramona Zachary, of Chickasha, OK, will be 1pm Wed, June 11, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, Chickasha. Memorial contributions may be made to Integris Hospice of Oklahoma County. Gwendolyn Ramona Zachary was born November 1, 1932 in Cement, Oklahoma to Roy and Ada [Caldwell] Cates. She passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 81. Mrs. Zachary grew up and graduated from Cement High School. She married Dan Zachary on February 10, 1951 in Laverty, OK. They lived in many places while Dan served in the military. They returned to the Chickasha area in 1974. She taught Sunday school and Women's Bible Study at the First Baptist Church of Chickasha and also served in the Women's Choir. She was a devout Christian witness her entire life. She moved to Oklahoma City in 2006. She was member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK. Mrs. Zachary is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Zachary, on Aug 12, 2008; a son, Danny Zachary; a sister, Mary Frances Richison; and a brother, Roy Cates, Jr. She is survived by her children: Phyllis Thompson and her husband, Gary, Janet Rice and her husband, Randy, Annette DeVore and her husband, Allan, Mary Kay Zachary, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Linda Lynn and her husband, Bryan. Interment will be in the Cement Cemetery, Cement, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha. |
