October 2010 Virgil Newton Huggins February 21, 1917 ~ October 16, 2010 Funeral service for Virgil Newton Huggins, 93 of Chickasha will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home. Virgil Newton Huggins was born February 21, 1917 on a farm near Snyder, Oklahoma. He was the son of Luther Newton and Deliah [Robertson] Huggins. Mr. Huggins passed from this life Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He and Pearl Burnett were married September 18, 1937 in Chickasha. Mr. and Mrs. Huggins were married for 73 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all. Mr. Huggins worked railroad construction in California and Utah in their early married life but on returning to Oklahoma he started working in the oil field. After a tour of duty in Germany during World War II with the U.S. Army he returned to the oilfield and retired at the age of 65 years. Mr. Huggins built the house they lived in for 57 years from the Norge school house. His son Jerry was six months old when they moved into their home. Mr. Huggins was a member of the Church of Christ for over 50 years and is living with Jesus today. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Virgil Wayne and Robert Eugene, a brother and three sisters. Survivors include his loving wife, Pearl, of the home in Chickasha; two daughters, Frances Atkins and husband Dan of Sulphur and Patsy Huggins of Oklahoma City; one son, Jerry Huggins and wife Rene' of Chickasha; nine grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews Interment will be in the Cement Cemetery in Cement, OK under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. |
