Mr. Day passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 2 at the Norman Veteran's Center after a short illness. Burial with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will be under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Cement Chapel.

Robert Lavon Day, the youngest of ten boys and seven girls, was born March 2, 1925 in Cement, Oklahoma to William Samuel and Mary Ellen [Lawson] Day.

Always known as "Bob" or "Bobby", he attended Cement schools until moving to California with his brother Shorty. He went to work in the shipyards of Richmond, California.

Bob was drafted into the Army, June 27, 1943. He was one of five Day brothers to serve on active military duty during World War II. Bob was transferred to the 25th Portable Surgical Hospital as a medic, and did tours in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Okinawa, Japan. While serving, Bob received the Good Conduct Medal and several citations before being honorably discharged on January 27, 1946.

After his discharge Bob moved to Rochester, Michigan and stayed with his sister, Lahoma [Day] Judd. He lived and worked in Michigan for many years before returning to Oklahoma in 1962. After six months working in the oil fields, Bob moved back to California where he worked with some of his siblings for the next ten years.

During his time there, Bob joined and was active in the Free and Accepted Mason's of California, Inland Empire Lodge #306. He remained a member until his death.

In 1973, he permanently returned to Norman, Oklahoma where he owned and operated his own gas station, Gibble Gas, on Porter Street. Bob "retired" in 1987, but continued to work in and around Norman until he finally retired at the age of eighty.

Bob enjoyed motorcycles, old cars, fishing, dominos, pool and rooting for the Oklahoma Sooners. He was an honest man, a good friend and will be missed dearly.

He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ellen, his father, William Samuel and sixteen brothers and sisters.
