Birdie Mae [Blackbear] Tointigh
1929 ~ August 3, 2012


Funeral for Birdie Mae Blackbear Tointigh, 83, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Comanche Community Center in Apache with the Rev. Monroe Tsatoke, the Rev. Ponce Leon and the Rev. Kendrick Boyiddle, officiating.

She went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2012.

Burial will follow at Cache Creek KCA Cemetery under the direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.

She loved her Indian tradition, hymn singing and powwows. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Apache Tribe Service Club, Apache Blackfeet Society, Kiowa and Apache Native American Church. She loved her family and loved all people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Helen Blackbear; her husband, Thomas Tointigh; a brother, Paul Wallace Blackbear; a son, Timothy Lee Tointigh; a daughter, Thomasine Tointigh; baby Christine Blackbear; and an adopted brother, the Rev. Thomas Roughface.

She is survived by her children: Jackie Dale Tointigh, Boone, Phyllis Mahsetky, Elgin, Francine O'Brien of Easton, Mo., and Patrick Paul Tointigh Winnipeg, Manitoba; her grandchildren: Paul Tointigh, Apache, Tonia Danelle Cozad, Norman, Buddy Dean Tate, Broken Arrow, Daniel Keith Cozad Jr., Anadarko, Dennis Frank Tooahimpah, Muskogee, John Lee Tointigh, Chickasha, Heather Dyann Cozad, Anadarko, Dustin Patrick Cozad, Muskogee, Amy Rochelle Tointigh, Noble, Anna Christine O'Brien, St. Joe, Mo., Jacob Tointigh, Anadarko, Josiah Thomas O'Brien, Easton, Mo.; 22 great-grandchildren: two great-great-grandchildren; adopted sisters: Nona Kodaseet, Vera Cozad Bufflomeat and Jenny Roughface Kauahquo; adopted sons: Ernest Begay and Leroy Thomas; an adopted daughter, Lisa Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
