Andy Kamphius, pastor, officiating. Poafpybitty suffered fatal burns after he apparently went to sleep while smoking a cigarette and the cigarette set his clothing on fire. He was born January 24, 1919, southwest of Apache and was a lifetime Apache resident. He worked at Fort Sill during World War II. Survivors include three sons, Thomas G. and Virgil I of Carnegie, and Bruce R. of Apache; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Reddin of Apache; two brothers, Frank of Indiahoma and Carl of Gracemont; a sister, Louise Wade of Oklahoma City and seven grandchildren |
Lawton, Oklahoma January 2013 July 22, 1944 ~ January 15, 2013 Funeral for Charles Allan Poafpybitty, 68, Lawton, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Comanche Community Center in Apache with Pastor Charles Spencer and Layperson Ricky Horse officiating. Burial will follow at Cache Creek KCA Cemetery, Apache, under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home. He passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. Prayer Service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel. Charles was born to the Rev. Carl Poafpybitty and Etheline Keys Poafpybitty, in Wichita, Kan. He grew up in the Oklahoma City area and attended Western Heights High School, where he graduated. He was a member of the Comanche Tribe of Oklahoma. Charley was a professional interior/exterior contractor. He worked many years with Robert E. Lee, Jeff Woolsey and David Moore until he started his own business. He enjoyed his chosen profession, in which he took great pride. He was a member of the Comanche Reformed Church, where he served many roles in the congregation. He was a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, church custodian, deacon and elder. He also attended Petarsy United Methodist Church. He loved to study God's word and spread the gospel. Charles loved watching his favorite teams: OU Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder. To him the best things in the world were being at home surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and loving on the family dog "Precious." He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Island Poafpybitty, of the home; children: Julieanna Island, Cameron Island, Chelsea Poafpybitty, Justin Poafpybitty, Candace Todd Valle and husband Albert Valle, and Janice Durant all of Lawton; Courtney Island Kester, of Thomas; Michele Vanhoose, Sarah Poafpybitty, of Lawton; and Lance Poafpybitty and Lionel Poafpybitty, of Idabel; adopted sons: Robert "Tubby" Todd, Roger Todd, Joseph "J.E." Todd and David Todd, all of Calumet; sisters: Linda Poafpybitty, of Anadarko; and Sandra Todd, of Oklahoma City; brother, Donald Poafpybitty, of Lawton; special niece, Troylynn Poafpybitty, of Des Moines, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one adopted grandson, Derrick Huggins; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends. He also attended Okmulgee Tech. and studied architectural design. He worked as a carpenter for more than 30 years and owned his own remodeling companies in Atlanta and Oklahoma. He enjoyed life with his family and friends, traveling the U.S. to visit many monumental sites. One of his many hobbies was playing pool, in which he won numerous championships throughout the state. He was an avid OU Sooner fan and attended many OU football games. He was also an avid reader and was known as "The Genius." He attended the Comanche Reformed Church in Lawton and various other churches throughout his life. Walter Quoetone officiating. Mr. Poafpybitty died Friday, February 27, 2009, in a local hospital. Burial will be at the Cache Creek [CA] Intertribal Cemetery, Apache. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Tuesday at the funeral home chapel. He was born January 14, 1954, in Lawton to Frank and Irene Chappabitty Poafpybitty. He was raised in Indiahoma where he attended and graduated from Indiahoma Public Schools. He attended college in Alameda, Cal. and graduated from Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton. He was self-employed as an auto mechanic and body shop repairman. He was also a skilled ironworker in the Dallas area for many years. Bodie was an avid dart game player and also enjoyed fishing and sports. He was a member of the Comanche Nation. He is the grandson of Otis and Lucy Quassycheeky-Chappabitty and Robert and Mahrahwaddi Poafpybitty. Survivors include five sisters: Paula Poafpybitty Clark, Mesquite, Texas; Verwyn Nevaquaya and Theresa Poafpybitty, both of Dallas, Texas; Coeur'd Alene "Corky" Jacob , South America; Francella Thom, Duncan; one brother, Gary Poafpybitty, Indiahoma; and several nieces and nephews. Her friends remember her as a great pool player, winning many tournaments in her life. She enjoyed playing pool, bead-working and making shawls. Linda was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles and going to the casinos. She was preceded in death by: parents: the Rev. She also attended Petarsy United Methodist Church. She loved watching her favorite teams: OSU Cowboys and the Oklahoma City Thunder. She absolutely loved and adored her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
