© El Reno Tribune El Reno, Oklahoma December 5, 1862 ~ January 22, 1938 Lawrence Mithlo, 76 years old, well-known member of the Apache Indian tribe and a former government scout and a war veteran, died at his home 2 miles west of Apache at 7 o'clock Saturday mornings. Funeral rites were held at the Apache Indian church here at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon and were conducted by Minster T. T. Brown. Burial was in Cache Creek Indian mission cemetery, under direction of the Home funeral parlor. Mithlo was taken ill with a carbuncle last October and took treatment at the Indian hospital at Lawton for several weeks. He returned to his home, but his condition was weakened, and he was unable to be out again. He called his family together two days before he died and made plans to leave them, urging upon them a closer Christian fellowship. Mithlo was born on a reservation in Arizona on December 5, 1862. He served as a government scout in 1886 and 1886, along with James Kawaykla, John Loco, Jason Betzinez, Sam Haozous and David Ahtsitsiny, Apaches now residing in this community. He served as a scout in the Spanish-American war and enlisted in the U. S. Army at Fort Sill in 1903 and was discharged at the end of three years' service, He moved to the place 2 miles west of Apache in 1914 and that was his home until his death. As a scout under General Nelson A. Miles, Mithlo aided in the capture of Geronimo, the Apache chief, more than 50 years ago. He was married to Dolly Perico at Lawton 30·years ago. To them were born six children, four of whom, with the widow, survive. They are: Mrs. Garnet Parker and Thurman Mithlo of Apache; Davis Mithlo, in New Mexico; and Harry Mithlo, who is attending school at Phoenix, Ariz. A son, Watson, in California, and a daughter, Violet, in New Mexico, by a former marriage, a brother, Victor Biete, also survive. |
Lawton, Oklahoma September 2022 July 15, 1953 ~ September 29, 2017 APACHE Funeral for Cora Julia Ware Mithlo, 64, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017, United Methodist Church of Apache, with Pastor Sharon yeahquo and Marvin Delaware officiating. She went to be with her Lord Friday September 29, 2017, with her loving family by her side. Burial will be in West Cache Creek KCA Cemetery west of Apache under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home. Wake Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, at United Methodist Church of Apache. Cora was born July 15, 1953, in Lawton to Erwin and Jessie [Casas Ware Sr. She attended schools at Mountain View and attended Okmulgee Tech for her certification in Culinary Arts. Cora enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the casino, loving on her dogs Jessie and Fred and Culinary Arts. Cora was a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. She is survived by her daughters, Monica Ware and husband Marvin RIdnour, Muldrow, Libby Parker and Everett Ataubo, Oklahoma City, Amber Mithlo and companion Gerald Chalepah, of the home; son Jasper Mithlo Jr. and Nikki Jones, Muldrow; brothers and sisters: Erwin "E.C." Ware, Mountain View, Alicia and husband Randy Mammedaty, Anadarko. Louis WhiteEagle, Muldrow, Eddy and Laura Heminokeky, Meers, Clara Russell, Walters, and Connie Pebeahsy, Stecker; sister-in-law, Libby Ware, Mountain View; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; very special nieces, Angel Ware Farley, Jessie Lane, Monique Ware, Randi Mammedaty and Anna Kay Preciado; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Dora Ware Pewo, LaQuinta Harmon; brothers: Jerry Ware, Gordon Ware and Ernie Ware; son, Lester "Boy" Parker Jr.; two grandsons, Christopher Banderas and Jerald Killsfirst; nephews, Cpl. Joshua J. Ware, Michael Pewo, and John "June Bug Pewo Jr.; and brother-in-law, John "Fleabait" Pewo Sr. |
