Lawton, Oklahoma May 2014 July 31, 1926 ~ May 14, 2014 Mary Madgaline Hawkins, 87 of Fort Cobb, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in Lawton. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014, at First Apache Indian Baptist Church, of Fort Cobb with Stanley Holder and Pastor Matthew Asetamy officiating. Burial will follow at Cache Creek KCA Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home. Prayer Service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at the funeral home chapel. She was born July 31, 1926, in Fort Cobb, to Claude Nesahkluah Jay and Elizabeth Mae Pewo Jay. Mary was the eldest female member of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma, and Apache Service Club Secretary-Treasurer from 1995 to the present. She played fast pitch softball and was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters" during World War II, and worked as a carhop at Wayne's Drive-in in Lawton. She is survived by sons: Bobby Jay and wife Ella Rose Jay, of Fort Cobb; Matthew Asetamy and wife Rosalind, of Cache; Herman Hawkins, of Anadarko; Dulaith Butch Perry, of Lawton; and Joel Wolfe, of Anadarko; daughters: Mary Lou Asetamy, of Lawton; Kathy Asetamy, of Pine Ridge, S.D.; Rebecca Hawkins Repp, of Moore; and Ethylene Perry, of Geronimo; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one special friend, Carmella Fowler; and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: the Rev. Claude Nesahkluah Jay and Elizabeth Mae (Pewo) Jay; husbands: Frank Joyce Asetamy, Dulaith Perry and Irvie Hawkins Sr.; daughters: Solome and Claudia Nell Asetamy; sons: Mark Asetamy, David Lee Perry Jay and Irvie Hawkins Jr.; brother, Elmer Jay Sr.; sisters: Alice Jay and Virginia Jay; grandson, Brian Claude Doan; and great-great-grandson, Willmer Lee Ace Youngblood. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at the funeral home. |
