Rosalie [Poolaw] Attocknie
January 18, 1926 ~ October 25, 2011


Rosalie Poolaw Attocknie of Apache, Oklahoma was born January 18, 1926 in Apache to Ella Nahdooahnippah and Bruce Poolaw. She passed away October 25th at her home in Apache surrounded by all those who loved her deeply, and is now resting in the arms of our God.

She was raised by her mother and Voris "Bill" Codopony in the town of Apache and as a girl, attended the Fort Sill Indian School. She later went to the Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS where she graduated.

Rosalie married Comanche tribal leader Francis Joseph Attocknie, Sr. on September 8, 1945 in Oklahoma City, he preceded her in death on November 19, 1984. Together, they raised six children in the Comanche way.

She accompanied her husband and his father, Albert Attocknie, as they represented the Comanche Nation during their frequent meetings with the government in Washington, D.C. She worked at Hillcrest Hospital in Oklahoma City. She and her husband traveled around the country attending many different cultural events involving the Comanche and other tribes, including annual trips with the Comanche Nation to the Shoshone Reunion held in different parts of the country and also to Laredo, TX with the Native American Church.

She was a cultural leader among her people and was adamant about preserving the traditional history and culture of the Comanche people. Rosalie was a member of the Native American Church, the Comanche Indian Veterans Auxiliary, and the Comanche Language and Cultural Preservation Committee. She was also a delegate for the Ladies Guild of the Apache Reformed Church.

Rosalie loved attending pow-wows and socializing with all her extended family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and representing the Comanche Nation. During the years she spent with us, she touched many lives and souls. She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. Rosalie was a blessing to all of us and her presence in our lives was a gift for which we will always be grateful. For nearly sixty-five years she dedicated her life to all her children.

She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Francis Joseph Attocknie, Sr., 1 son- Francis Joseph Attocknie, Jr., 1 grandson- Tahkony Alvarado, 1 great-grandson- Baby Ja [Jaydn] Attocknie, 2 sisters- Delores Saupitty and Barbara Coker

A prayer service will be held Friday, October 28th at 7:00 P.M. at the Comanche Community Center in Apache.

The Funeral will be held Saturday, October 29th at 1:00 P.M. at the Comanche Community Center.

Burial will follow at the Cache Creek Indian Mission Cemetery west of Apache under the direction of Crews Funeral Home.

Fanchon Willene Attocknie
October 16, 1939 ~ October 31, 2023


Fanchon Willene Attocknie 84, on October 31, 2023 her heavenly family came to take her to heaven. She passed away in Lawton. She was born on October 16, 1939 to Willis Roberta Domebo Attocknie Sr.

She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Lawton, Oklahoma. Fanchon was enrolled with the Comanche Nation; she was also of Kiowa Descent. Franchon attended Ft. Sill Indian School and graduated from Lawton High School in Lawton. Franchon attended Cameron University with an associates Degree. Fanchon was Federal Agent with the US Treasury Department and employed at Ft. Sill processing the new solders and was able to retire thru the US Government. She enjoyed playing tennis, golf in college and was avid OU Football fan.

She is survived by: brother, Alvie Attocknie; nephews, Darin Attocknie, Kevin Attocknie, and Keith Attocknie; aunt, Nettie Soontay Sandoval; great nephew, Dalton Attocknie; and great niece, Emmily Attocknie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Willis, Jesse and Linward Attocknie; nephew, Darin Attocknie Jr., grandmother, Alice Soontay; uncles: Howard Soontay Jr., Richard Soontay, Robert Soontay, Hank Tomahsah; and aunts: Bernice Key, Bertha Hogan and Cora Tiddark

Funeral Service will be Monday November 6, 2023 11:00 AM at the Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at West Cache Creek west of Apache under the direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.

Willis Attocknie Jr

Willis Attocknie Jr., 76, passed away on March 3, 2023 in Lawton, OK. He was born on November 27, 1947 to Roberta Hawzipta Attocknie and Willis Attocknie Sr.

Willis was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Lawton, Oklahoma. Willis was enrolled with the Comanche Nation; he was also of Kiowa Descent. He graduated from Lawton High School in Lawton, Oklahoma. In his early years he was employed with different banks as an accountant. He also did several other jobs. He loved playing baseball and watching all sports. Will loved to watch track, High Jumping.

He is survived by his sister, Fanchon Attocknie; brother, Alvie Attocknie; nephews, Darin Attocknie, Kevin Attocknie, and Keith Attocknie; aunt, Nettie Soontay Sandoval; great nephew, Dalton Attocknie; and great niece, Emmily Attocknie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jesse and Linward Attocknie; nephew, Darin Attocknie Jr., grandmother, Alice Soontay; uncles, Howard Soontay Jr., Richard Soontay, Robert Soontay, Hank Tomahsah; and aunts, Bernice Key, Kertha Hogan and Cora Tiddark

APACHE: Esa Attocknie, 62, Apache, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, in Lawton. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Cameron Baptist Church, Lawton, with Kelly Haney officiating.

Graveside service will follow at Cache Creek Cemetery, KCA Intertribal burial grounds, Apache, under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.

Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, at the funeral home. Esa Attocknie was born June 10, 1954, in Lawton to Francis Attocknie Sr. "Joe A." and Rosalie Poolaw Attocknie. She grew up in Oklahoma City, and she graduated from Capitol Hill High School, Oklahoma City. She attended Haskell Indian Junior College, Lawrence, Kan., and Caddo-Kiowa Vocational Technical School, Fort Cobb. She worked for Indian Health Services in Oklahoma City and Aberdeen, S.D., Apache Grade School, Apache, USDA Office of Rural Economic & Community Development, formerly the Anadarko office of the Farmers Home Administration in Anadarko, Comanche Nation Election Board and Lawton Indian Hospital, Lawton.

Survivors include a one son, Francis Attocknie III "Hoo-se" of Lawton; granddaughters: Chantel Cheri Attocknie of Lawton; and Desire' Shaina Ida Attocknie of Apache; grandson, Josiah Sha Attocknie of Shiprock, N.M.; great-granddaughter, Victoria Rose of Lawton; and many other relatives, friends and associates. Esa Attocknie was active in her Comanche culture. She participated in numerous powwows and traveled throughout the United States and Canada. At Haskell College, she was an active member in the Indian Club and traveled with them to perform. She enjoyed going to handgames and she played with the Kiowa County handgame team. She attended peyote meetings, sang Comanche hymns, and helped with many cultural events. She helped with family gatherings, Indian taco sales, bote sales, cleaning guts, preparing fry bread and making stew.

She was avid Dallas Cowboys football fan. She enjoyed playing sports. She was a pitcher in softball and while living in Oklahoma City she was in a bowling league. She liked watching football, basketball, softball and baseball. She used to drive relatives to participate and watch many sporting events. She was always a helpful person. She helped raised many of her nieces, nephews, in-laws and grandchildren, and she would travel to take care of their many needs.

She was a member of the Apache Reformed Church in Apache. She traveled on many occasions for her church to New York, Illinois and California. She will be missed by all who knew her.

APACHE: Funeral for Jadyn Attocknie, 12, Apache, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Comanche Nation Community Center of Apache with Pastor Sharon Yeahquo, Hunting Horse United Methodist Church, officiating. Baby Ja was called home early Tuesday morning, October 4, 2011, from a local hospital.

Burial will be at Cache Creek KCA Intertribal Cemetery, under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.

Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Comanche Nation Community Center of Apache.

Jadyn Michael RayJohn Attocknie entered this life on September 23, 1999, in Lawton, the beloved son of Cindy Lois Twohatchet and Patrick Elton Voris Attocknie. He was raised in the Apache area and attended Apache Public Schools. He was in the fifth grade at Apache Elementary School. Baby Ja was a member of the Comanche Nation and was of Kiowa descent. Jadyn not only enjoyed daily life at home with family but his classmates as well. He was a member of the Tabe-Eka Chapter of the Comanche Native American Church. He enjoyed attending peyote meetings with his dad, also playing basketball, dancing and pow-wow music. Baby Ja always slept close to his grandmother, Phyllis, who gave him the name "Baby Ja". Baby Ja is what he is best known by his family and friends. He gave a class on how to do the "Moon Walk". Wrestling was one of his passions and another was art. His drawings are what most considered beyond his years.

He leaves to cherish his memories his paternal grandmother, Phyllis Attocknie, of the home; his father, Patrick and companion, Sonia, of the home; his mother: Cindy and companion, AJ, of Oklahoma City; maternal grandmother, Donna Twohatchet, of Holdenville; paternal great-grandmother, Rosalie Attocknie; seven sisters: Mame-Neta, Kaylee, Annarose, Angel, Aaliyah, Alysia and Corrina; 11 brothers: Miko, Jeremy, Dion, Skye, Tremaine, Randy, Dayton, J.J., Matthew, Sonny and Gerald Jr.; niece and nephew: Syanne EllaRae and Payton Oliver; aunts: Nuh-Nah, Alisa Rose, Dana, Rozanna, Wuh-yah-keh, Mary Alyce, Carla, Darla, Randi Lynn, Shawn, Sunshine, Beverly and Lynette; uncles: Tony Ray, Asa Albert, Buffy and Duffy; other nieces and nephews; special cousins: Eric, Megan and Dakota; as well as many grandparents, cousins, friends, classmates and homies.

Jadyn was preceded in death by his uncle, T.J. "Tahkony" Alvarado Attocknie; and great-grandfather, Francis "Joe" Attocknie.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
