Explosion Victim's Rites Are Held At Broxton Tuesday

Lawanda Swanda Fatally Burned In Home Accident At Noon Sunday.

Explosion of gas accumulated in the concrete cellar of the home, took the life of a 14-year-old girl at noon Sunday.

Lawanda Swanda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Swanda, well known family living east of Alden, died about 7:30 Sunday evening after being injured and burned in a terrific explosion that blew her out of the cellar where she had gone to get a can of fruit for Sunday dinner. She had struck a match as she entered the cellar, it is believed.

Nearness of the home to the Apache gas field and because the home is equipped with butane gas has caused conjecture as to the reason of the accumulation of gas in the cellar. No definite explanation had been reached at noon Wednesday, it is understood.

Funeral rites for the child were held at the Broxton school Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Garland Howard, pastor of the Carnegie Baptist church and burial was made in the Carnegie cemetery. The Pitchers had charge of the funeral arrangements.

Lawanda was born three and a half miles south of Carnegie. Survivors besides her parents are her two brothers, Donald and Ronald, and a sister Linda Anne, and many other near relatives.
