© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, July 6, 1927 Catherine R. [Stitzel] Steininger Mrs. J.M. Steininger died at her home in Waukomis Tuesday, June 28. Burial was made in the Carnegie cemetery Thursday afternoon. The Steininger family was formerly well known here, Mr. Steininger being agent at the Rock Island depot at the time of his death in 1909. Cathrine R. Stitzel was born at Williamson, Pa., April 2, 1853, and departed this life at her home in Waukomis, Okla., June 28, 1927, aged 74 years, 2 months and 26 days. She was married to George J.M. Steininger January 28, 1879 at Church Hill, Pa. To this union was born seven children, Edith Overturf, Bird City, Kans., Clement D. and Ella Steininger and Elsie Ridenour all of Waukomis and Elmer of Pittsburg, Calif. George and Clarence died in infancy. She and her husband came west in June, 1879, to Nebraska, living there and in Kansas for 21 years, where all their children were born. They moved to Oklahoma in 1901, living at Hennessey for three and one half years and nine years at Carnegie, where her husband passed away on October 8, 1909. Mrs. Steininger and her four children moved to Waukomis in 1913. She leaves to mourn her departure her five children, eight grand-children, three brothers and four sisters, and many friends. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and always lived a consistent Christian life, always setting the right example before her children and her friends. Funeral services were held at Waukomis Wednesday and the remains were brought to Carnegie where interment was made beside her husband Thursday afternoon, Rev. W.A.R. Lovell having charge of the services at the grave. |
